The Jackson Downtown Development Authority presents the Grand River Farmers Market, today and tomorrow from 8am to 2pm.  The market, featuring seasonal farmers and other vendors is at Grand River Marketplace, corner of Glick Highway and Mechanic Street in Downtown Jackson.

The Community Action Agency and Jackson Great Start presents a Family Community Fair from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the American 1 Fair Event Center, (200 W. Ganson Street in Jackson, Jackson County Fairgrounds).  Crawl up in a police car, try on a firefighter’s bunker gear, see what the inside of an ambulance looks like and get up close, and personal with brave men and women in our community here to help us. Meet a K9 Officer, find out about “Sound the Alarm – Save a life”.  All free of charge!  The Jackson Area Transportation Authority will provide free transportation to and from the event.

The Jackson District Library offers Yoga at the Meijer Branch every Friday at 8:30 AM with Jeanette Lamphere. Suggested donation of $3. Intended for adults.

Yoga at the Spring Arbor Branch of the Jackson District Library today and every Friday at 9 AM with Amy Reamer.  Suggested donation of $5.

The Eastern Branch of the Jackson District Library has Yoga with Elizabeth Hall at 9 AM.  Class suggested for adults and seniors.  Suggested donation is $2.

The Downtown Development Authority presents the final Cruise Night of the season, tonight from 6 PM to 9 PM.  Join us for our family oriented event featuring classic cars on display throughout the Downtown Streets of Jackson.  There will be a variety of vendors at this event including food trucks. Bring your family and friends to Downtown Jackson to enjoy the last summer evening Cruise In! 

The Jackson YMCA presents Oktoberfest, a two day street party, in front of the Y on Wesley Street in Downtown Jackson.  Fun for the whole family!  Friday’s entertainment lineup:  5 PM,  The Dude, Bill Slaughter; Showdown, 7 PM to 9:30 PM.  Grilled chicken sandwiches, hot dogs brats, pretzels, beer, wine, annual mug-holding contest, 50-50 and more.  Friday hours are 5 PM to 10 PM.  Oktoberfest continues on Saturday from 3 PM to 10 PM.  Entertainment on Saturday:  Pro DJs, 3 PM to 6:45 PM and Smoke and Mirrors, 7 PM to 9:30 PM.  The Strong Person Contest:  3 PM to 5 PM.  Kids activities, big screen football, church tours 3 PM to 4 PM.  Presented by the Jackson YMCA, Partnership Park and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Artist Reception at the Orange Peacock, 120 West Michigan Avenue, Downtown Jackson.  Join us as we celebrate the art of Carrie Ellison. Her work features a wide variety of color schemes and incorporates unique multi-media styles. Carrie will be visiting from her home state of Washington and will be demonstrating her techniques. Come to meet Carrie and enjoy the Cruise In going on throughout downtown, 5 PM to 8 PM.

Fall Equinox Yoga Rave. Celebrate the Fall Equinox with our 2nd YOGA RAVE  Yoga at 6:00 PM. Followed by Live Music  by Parker on the Handpan and Ben on the Sitar. Then, a Dance Party with DJ Mike Holiday.   Nourish yourself with Healthy Snacks & Drinks afterwards.  Bring a friend and CONNECT with our Yoga Community.  $20 Donation benefiting the YMCA After School Programs.  Studio Deeply Art, 634 North Mechanic Street, Jackson.

Friday Nights at Sandhill.  We are extending our hours Friday evenings until 10pm, come sit on the deck, enjoy a glass of wine, wine taste & grab some dinner!  The cafe will be open for orders until 9:30.  Music by Paul on the Piano, 6:30-8:30 on the deck.  In addition to our new Friday evening hours, we will be launching Sangria specials every weekend Friday-Sunday.  No cover, just come join us for a relaxing evening.

Henry Ford Allegiance Race to Health.  Your health matters—to you, to your family and to us. You’ve motivated us to host the annual Race to Health for more than three decades because we want you to have opportunities to move and make a positive difference in your overall well-being. Plus, it’s fun!Saturday, September 23, we’ve got a great morning planned. And it’s all for you. For starters, all participants and their families—from kids to seniors—can enjoy a free, delicious, healthy breakfast. Then, it’s time to lace up and hit the race route!  Family Activities,  Free breakfast,  Green Market.  Step by Step Family Wellness Day from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Includes kids & family fitness games.  Inflatable obstacle course,  Kids Fun Run, Rock climbing wall,  Extreme air jumper.  Race packets and registration will be available under the tent in front of Radiation Oncology – Tejada Center:  Friday, September 22, from 3-5 p.m. and Saturday, September 23 (race day), from 7:00-8:50 a.m. Registration will stop 10 minutes prior to each event.  8:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Henry Ford Allegiance Radiation Oncology.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.  9 AM to 2 PM at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.  Household Hazardous Waste Items and Electronic Waste will be accepted.   Products not accepted include tires, business/farm materials, explosives and radioactive materials.  Extra fees for TVs and Computers range from $5 to $20 depending on size.  More details available here.

Wonderful World Of Magic with Tyler Scott.  On Saturday, September 23 at 2 PM, the Carnegie Branch welcomes Tyler Scott.  Tyler brings his magic from the street to the stage.  All ages welcome and no admission charge.  Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library, Downtown Jackson.

Artists for Alzheimer’s presents an Arts, Fine Arts and Crafts Show.   Woodworking, jewelry, fully-decorated Christmas trees, potpourri, birdseed bakery, original artwork and a Silent Auction.  9am-4pm.  This event benefits research and Alzheimer’s care.  Arbor View Estates, 120 W Arbor View Dr, Spring Arbor.

MeggaXP, at the Commonwealth Commerce Center.  Michigan’s Entertainment, Gaming, Geek and Arts Experience is BACK for YEAR 3!  What’s MeggaXP? It’s Jackson’s only experience that allows fans of movies, video games, board games, card games, anime, comics, toys, collectibles, Pokemon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, and more to congregate under one roof – – – the roof of the Commonwealth Commerce Center!  We are returning to one MAJOR gaming room on the 4th floor.  All of the video games, tabletop games and RPGs you could ever imagine playing will be hosted on the 4th floor.  Over 80 vendors, artists, and more!  Complete details here.

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 68th season with music inspired by the ancient folk tales from One Thousand and One Nights.  Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide leads off followed by Turkish composer Fazil Say’s 2007 Violin Concerto subtitled 1001 Nights in Harem.  The work showcases Jason Mellow, a New York City violinist who frequently performs on Broadway.  The evening concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov’s most famous work, Scheherazade. This is the first concert of the season and the first concert under the direction of Maestro Dr. Matt Aubin.  Tickets start at just $18.00 and will be available at the door.  Box Office:  517-782-3221.  7:30 PM, Potter Center Music Hall, Jackson College.

Music on Main Street, every Saturday in September in Downtown Concord from 12 N to 2 PM.  Join us for an impromptu music jam.  The Jackson District Library Concord Branch Opera House will be open to the public. Bring your instrument (piano provided) and practice some music. Intended for teens and adults.

Merle Haggard Tribute Concert fundraiser, to benefit the Township & Village Police Association of Jackson County.  Music from Jeff Carson and Missy Lee.  7 PM, Jackson High  School Auditorium.

Sunday

Moons of the Solar System at the Hurst Planetarium, Ella Sharp Museum.  In this live, interactive experience explore the beautiful moons of our Solar System. See the Universe through Galileo’s eyes and how he discovered the moons of Jupiter. Fly away from the Earth and visit the spectacular moons that our Solar System has to offer. From the volcanoes of Io to the oceans of Enceladus, explore what the Solar System has to offer!  2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.  Admission is $6.

Walker Tavern Farmers Market is one of the largest open air markets in Southeast Michigan. There are over 50 vendors that can be found on most Sundays. There are local seasonal produce and handmade crafts at this farmers market, there are even some special Sunday events. A Recreation passport is required for State Park entry.  Hours are 10am to 12 noon.  Walker Tavern is located at M-50 and U.S. 12 in Brooklyn.
