Magic for the House with Heart.  Join the Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect for “Magic for the House with Heart” featuring Daniel Martin and presented by GSA.  VIP Pre-show ticket includes Mix & Mingle, music, hearty hors d’oeuvres, drink ticket, cash bar, raffle, choice of seating. The Jackson Downtown Development Authority presents the Grand River Farmers Market, today and tomorrow from 8am to 2pm.  The market, featuring seasonal farmers and other vendors is at Grand River Marketplace, corner of Glick Highway and Mechanic Street in Downtown Jackson.

The Jackson Community Music School presents its popular Free Bach’s Lunch Series today from 12 PM to 1 PM at Weatherwax Hall, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Downtown Jackson.   The Bach’s Lunch Series promotes classical music through FREE noontime concerts open to the public, featuring our Community Music School students, faculty and guest artists.  Concerts also include demonstration and commentary given by professional musicians.  Klavon’s pizza slices and beverages are available for purchase or feel free to bring in your own lunch. 

The Jackson District Library offers at the Meijer Branch every Friday at 8:30 AM with Jeanette Lamphere. Suggested donation of $3. Intended for adults.

Yoga at the Spring Arbor Branch of the Jackson District Library today and every Friday at 9 AM with Amy Reamer.  Suggested donation of $5.

The Eastern Branch of the Jackson District Library has Yoga with Elizabeth Hall at 9 AM.  Class suggested for adults and seniors.  Suggested donation is $2.

Homecoming Weekend at Jackson College.  Come and visit your alma mater!  Visit the Jackson College website for full list of times and registration information! www.jccmi.edu/.  Homecoming festivities will include opportunities to reconnect with classmates and faculty and participate in many fun activities.  Tonight, a Wine and Cheese reception at 5:30 PM, Central Campus, Bert Walker Hall Patio.  Entertainment includes music by Dan Bickel and others.  $10 per person, must be 21 to attend. 

Friday Nights at Sandhill.  We are extending our hours Friday evenings until 10pm, come sit on the deck, enjoy a glass of wine, wine taste & grab some dinner!  The cafe will be open for orders until 9:30.  In addition to our new Friday evening hours, we will be launching Sangria specials every weekend Friday-Sunday.  No cover, just come join us for a relaxing evening.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

The Grand River Brewery presents the 2nd Annual Schweinfest from 2 PM to 10 PM. A whole pig will be roasted and served with a variety of homemade German fare.  They will also be releasing a delicious imperial alt bier and making some special Autumn-inspired cocktails.  Live music.  GRB’s biggest party of the fall.  The menu:  Roasted pig, German Potato Salad, Brussel Sprouts and Bacon, Bavarian Pretzels and Mustard, Kielbasa and Sauerkraut, Butternut Squash Soup, Autumn Apple Strudel.  $18 per plate.

Hurricane Benefit Concert at the Michigan Theatre. Donation of $5 will go to support relief efforts in hurricane ravaged areas.  Musical acts all day beginning at 2 PM and running through 10 PM.  Headliner is Kung Fu Diesel.  Also on the bill:  Holy Roots, Van Rives, Crown of Thorns, Brent Hanlin, Gary King and many more.

Parma Day Harvest Festival.   Downtown Parma, from 7 AM to 3 PM.  Food, fun, festivities and kids activities.  5K Run/Walk begins at 8 AM, registration at 7 AM.  Free homemade breakfast for all runners and walkers at the Masonic Temple.  More details here.

Astronomy Day at Hurst Planetarium, 2 PM to 4 PM.  Join us for a free, fun family event as we recognize Astronomy Day in the Hurst Planetarium. Live, interactive presentations and various crafts and activities will be available to families.  For more information, click here.

Spring Arbor University Homecoming.   Events include the dedication of the Ralph G. Walker Track and Field Complex and the Weatherwax Microbiology Laboratory.  Walker Track Complex at 9:45 PM and Weatherwax Lab at 10:30 AM.  There will be a Homecoming Craft Show from 11 AM to 2 PM.   Come and see handmade items created by our talented alumni and friends! Take home something truly unique and support fellow alumni in their small businesses. You’ll find jewelry, calligraphy prints, knitted items, wood burned items, baby products, wall art, and more – you will certainly find something special here. Dirty Bird BrewFest Anniversary Party.  The Dirty Bird is doing it big for our one year anniversary! We will be shutting down a portion of W. Michigan Ave right in front our place and putting on our own beerfest!! This is going to be the event of the year and one that you certainly won’t want to miss.  Over 20 breweries, live music, awesome food, prizes and giveaways and so much more!!!  Drink tickets for the event will be purchased right at the entrance. $25 for 10 drink tickets with the option to buy more. 21 and up inside the event area, with the restaurant being open to everyone.  4 PM to 9 PM.

Music on Main Street, every Saturday in September in Downtown Concord from 12 N to 2 PM.  Join us for an impromptu music jam.  The Jackson District Library Concord Branch Opera House will be open to the public. Bring your instrument (piano provided) and practice some music. Intended for teens and adults.

Medication Take Back Event.  The Center for Family Health, Henry Ford Allegiance Health, and Jackson Police are partnering together on Saturday, September 30th to collect unwanted, expired, or unused medications. Dispose of your medications safely at this free event!  We will be collecting unused medications on Saturday, September 30th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Center for Family Health on 505 N. Jackson St, downtown Jackson.  Accepted: Pills, Capsules, & Patches  Not Accepted: Syringes, Needles, Lancets, & Liquids.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1

Falling Waters Trail Run/Walk.  The Falling Waters Trail Run/Walk will have its 9th running in on Sunday, October 1. Last year we had over 450 athletes participated in the 5K, 10K and the half-marathon that started at Concord High School and headed out to the trail. The money raised is all going towards the Falling Waters Trail!  The day begins at 8:00 AM with the Kid’s Wild Dash. Below are the approximate start times for all events:  6:30 AM Registration and Packet Pickup, 7:45 AM Wheelchair Half-Marathon,  8:00 AM Kids’ Wild Dash,  8:15 AM Half-Marathon Run and Walk,  8:25 AM 5K and 10K Run and Walk.  Registration and more information here.

Ella Sharp Museum Fall Harvest Festival. 12 PM to 4 PM.   This year you can enjoy pumpkin painting, make & take crafts, historic buildings, and more with your family. The museum will have all galleries open, with favorite exhibits like Art à Loan on display. Historic buildings will be open for exploring, as well as traditional craftsman demonstrations like cider pressing, blacksmithing, beekeeping, and candle dipping.  Signature activities and exciting opportunities from new community partners. Old Bearz Bees recently removed several thousand bees from Ella’s Farmhouse and our General Store will be the perfect place for owner Ben Schlenker to showcase his products and more. Funday’s Family Fun Café will also be present at the festival, adding an additional component for children to enjoy. Festival goers will be treated to a wide array of activities at no charge.  Admission to Fall Harvest is free with nominal fees for food and activities.  For more information visit ellasharp.org or call the museum at 517-787-2320.

Football on the Big Screen.  The Michigan Theatre presents the Detroit Lions Vs Minnesota Vikings. FREE ADMISSION!! We will have $3 12 oz Domestic Beer. We will also have All Beef Hotdogs for $1 Come on down and have fun with us!!   Doors will be open at 12:00 Noon.
