Celebrate Black History Month at Jackson College with a special commemoration from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 in Bert Walker Hall, Rooms 144-145. This Black History Month Celebration will feature a historical tribute, musical entertainment by local artist Larry Sumner, Jr., authentic “soul food” and beverages. Event is free and college and community members are welcome. Jackson College’s event will examine the history of Black History Month and contributions of black Americans. The event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.  Black History Month is a time to remember and celebrate the achievements of black Americans. The event grew out of the first “Negro History Week,” in 1926, the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. February coincides with the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.

The 11th Annual Springport Choir Boosters Valentine Cafe is a night you won’t forget. This event features the talented students from the choir program presenting songs of love from 6pm to 9pm, accompanied by an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet! Join us in the SHS cafetorium for an evening of songs and sweets. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for students. This is one of our community’s can’t-miss events, highlighted by some truly awesome performances. Don’t miss it!
