Trinity Lutheran Church will host its annual Harvest Festival Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 2nd. The dinner will run from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM and the cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 11, and free for children under 5. This year’s menu will feature roasted pork and sauerkraut, real mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, homemade applesauce, bread and butter, fresh-baked pumpkin or apple pie, and assorted beverages. The Hurst Planetarium at Ella Sharp Museum presents Phantom of the Universe, The Hunt for Dark Matter. Join us as we showcase an exciting exploration of dark matter, from the Big Bang to its anticipated discovery at the Large Hadron Collider. See the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky, the scientist who coined the term “dark matter.” From there explore the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda Galaxy and then plummet deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, housed in a former gold mine. Finally journey across space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, to learn how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter. 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
Mental Health Summit. Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition, LifeWays Community Mental Health and Jackson County Substance Abuse Coalition have collaborated on an educational opportunity providing useable mental health skills to the Jackson community. Jackson’s Mental Health Summit will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 8 am to 3 pm at Baker College Welcome Center, 2800 Springport Rd., Jackson. Breakfast and lunch is provided. The event is $25 online and $30 at the door. This educational event is for medical professionals, social workers, educators and the public.
