A panel of city, county and state officials; local leaders, pastors and business owners. Bring your solutions! Because of the sudden rash of shooting deaths involving young African-American men recently, this forum was organized to discuss the issues, hear from local authorities and work together on solutions. JXN Community Forum: Human Trafficking. Human Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery affecting men, women, and children- both citizens and immigrants. Local and state experts will speak about Human Trafficking and the surprising local impact it has on Jackson County. Diane Baird from the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force will join local experts to educate and inform the community about what Jackson residents can do to be aware and break the silence. The Hurst Planetarium at Ella Sharp Museum presents Phantom of the Universe, The Hunt for Dark Matter. Join us as we showcase an exciting exploration of dark matter, from the Big Bang to its anticipated discovery at the Large Hadron Collider. See the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky, the scientist who coined the term “dark matter.” From there explore the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda Galaxy and then plummet deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, housed in a former gold mine. Finally journey across space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, to learn how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter. 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
