Jackson Community Providers present the 6th Annual Jackson Caregiver Retreat.  First Church of the Nazarene, 3905 Clinton Road, Jackson.  Join us if you are a caregiver who regularly assist a loved one with personal care, household chores or health issues.  Breakfast, lunch, speakers, massages, manicures, retail therapy, prizes and more.  This is a complimentary event for caregivers and registration is required.  Call Karen at 517-927-2669 or Julie at 517-348-2294.

The Jackson Downtown Development Authority presents the Grand River Farmers Market, today from 8am to 2pm.  The market, featuring seasonal farmers and other vendors is at Grand River Marketplace, corner of Glick Highway and Mechanic Street in Downtown Jackson.

Yoga at the Carnegie Branch of the Jackson District Library.  Feeling stressed? Join us on every Tuesday at 5:30 PM for yoga at the Carnegie Branch. Newbies to certified Yogis welcome. Intended for adults.

College Night at Jackson College.  Explore college and higher education options to make an informed choice by attending Jackson College’s College Night, to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 in Bert Walker Hall, Community Room 144 & 145, Central Campus.  Representatives from more than 60 colleges, universities and financial institutions will be on campus to answer questions from future students. Students of all ages are welcome, and parents, too! Friends of the Spring Arbor Branch of the Jackson District Library Book Sale.  All week at the branch.  Friends of the Library are having their Fall Book Sale.   Stop in and see what treasures you can find!!   Today’s hours are 10 AM to 7 PM.  Friday will be $1 a bag day. 

Red Cross Blood Drive.  During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood to support cancer patients and others.  According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 1.7 million new cases of cancer are expected in the U.S. this year.  Cancer patients may need blood products during chemotherapy, surgery or treatment for complications.  Today’s Blood Drive is 12 p.m. – 5:45 p.m., Grass Lake United Methodist Church, 449 E. Michigan Avenue, Grass Lake.

Canning 101.  This class focuses in-depth on the canning method of food preservation. Whether your interest is jams, jellies, butters, fruits, salsas, vegetables, pickles, soups, meats or meals, we will discuss how to can them all! Full demonstration of water bath and pressure canning will be given as well as time and money saving tips from a mom of seven who cans hundreds and hundreds of jars each season!Cost is $25 per person. Space is limited. This class will be taught at K7 Farm in Concord, MI on Tuesday, October 17 at 6pm. 5 Healthy Towns Eating Class:  Spice it Up.  Made possible in part by a grant from the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation.
Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m., Chef Brad West demonstrates how to use seasonings and spices to transform food from blah to ahah. Space is limited. Registration is required so please call the branch to reserve your spot. Intended for adults. This event is located at the Whistlestop Depot – 218 E. Michigan Ave., Grass Lake.
