Events of Wednesday, June 14

Celebrate Flag Day with Family Night at The Cascades tonight with live entertainment by “SURF ZUP”,  an instrumental rock band known for iconic surf guitar songs as well as popular TV and movie themes, all with catchy and recognizable melodies.  Characters appearing are Sponge Bob, Patrick, Squidward along with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Admission is $10 for the entire family (up to 8 people).  The show begins at 7pm.

The Kiwanis Summer Kids Series continues today at the Michigan Theatre.  This week’s movie:  Shrek.  Showtimes are at 10am and 2pm.  Admission is $1.  Doors open one half hour before showtime.

Dictionary Art for Adults is a class at the Brooklyn branch of the Jackson District Library.  Learn how to create your own book page masterpiece.  5:30pm.  Brooklyn branch is at 207 N. Main Street.  More info at 517-905-1369.

The Corrigan Oil 200 ARCA Racing Series Hauler Parade is back this year! The parade will start at Michigan International Speedway, run through downtown Brooklyn and end back at MIS.  The parade is scheduled from 3:30 to 4:15pm.

The Grass Lake Farmers Market sets up at the Depot tonight and every Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in downtown Grass Lake.

Jackson City Councilman Freddie Dancy, 2nd Ward, will conduct a Neighborhood Meeting beginning at 6:30pm at the Henry Ford Allegiance Health Anderson Building.  Dancy, along with Michael R. Derby, staff attorney for Legal Services of South Central Michigan, and Alice Lewis of the Jackson Human Relations Commission will discuss a variety of topics including what Legal Service accomplishes in the state and matters of the HRC.   The meeting is open to the public and residents throughout the Jackson community are encouraged to attend.

The Beach Bar summer patio party tonight features a live band on the patio from 5:30 to 9:30pm at Clark Lake.
