Boys Cross country

Jackson County Jensen Meet: Concord High School runner Jonathan Mikovits edged Jacob Singleton of Western to earn the Jensen title. Mikovits won the 5K run in 16 minutes, 34 seconds. Singleton finished second (16:39), Jacob Walker of Columbia Central was third (16:43), Rogan Melling of Hanover-Horton placed fourth (16:44), Chad Perrine was fifth (17:13), and Matt Hoop of Lumen Christi was sixth (17:29). 

Girls Cross country

Jackson County Jensen Meet: Lumen Christi earned three of the top five spots in the all-county meet. Madison Osterberg of Lumen Christi won the event (18:50), Faith Smith of LCCHS was second (19:20), and teammate Layla Lopez was fifth (20:13). Olivia Perrine of Jackson finished third (19:42), Alyna Lewis of Western was fourth (20:09), and Sophia Reynolds of Hanover-Horton was sixth (20:43).

Division 3 State Finals

Division 3 at Midland: Nick Hendrickson/Hudson Valentine of Western High School lost in the quarterfinals at No. 3 doubles.

Division 4 State Finals

Division 4 at University of Michigan: Daniel Pero of Columbia Central High School advanced to the semifinals in the No. 1 singles. He lost 6-3 and 6-0 to Andrew Solarewicz – the No. 1 seed – in the semifinal round. Pero found himself down 5-0 in game one, but scored three consecutive points to get back into the match. Pero earned two wins in the state tournament and finished the season with a 10-1 record. Noah Lee of Lumen Christi lost in the quarterfinal round after a three-set win on Friday. Cade Nelson and Brady Lefere lost in the quarterfinals at No. 3 doubles for the Titans. 

Volleyball

Dansville Invitational: Napoleon High School went 3-1-1 at the Dansville Invitational on Saturday. Samantha Conaway served 31 points with 13 aces, Alyssa Budd finished with 31 kills and Emme VanPoppel added 24 kills, and Momo Hampton tallied 70 assists and 29 digs for the Pirates.

Division 2

Division 2 at Bedford Valley: Natalie Kulka of Jackson High School finished 13th overall with a two-day total of 167. She shot rounds of 84 and 83. 

Division 3

Division 3 at Forest Akers West: Western High School finished 11th as a team in the Division 3 finals at Forest Akers West. The Panthers were consistent shooting 391 and 392 during the two-day tournament. Sydnie Redovich shot a total of 175 and Brune Savage shot 182. 

Division 4

Division 4 at Forest Akers East: Kamryn Shannon of Michigan Center High School finished one stroke short of repeating as Division 4 champion. The senior shot rounds of 70 and 74 to finish the tournament with an even-par score of 144. Mia Melendez shot rounds of 72 and 71 to edge Shannon by one stroke. Columbia Central freshman Logan Bentley finished ninth individually with scores of 79 and 88 for a two-day total of 167 to earn a top 10 medal. Lumen Christi finished third as a team (701), Michigan Center was 10th (793), and Hanover-Horton placed 17th (885). Ashley Hilderley and Caroline Hilderley both shot two-day totals of 169 – 11th individually in the tournament. Montague and Lansing Catholic both tied with 675 for two days. Montague was awarded the championship based on the team’s fifth-place player.
