Hanover-Horton Invitational: The Comets lost to Clinton (17-3) but came back to defeat Charlotte 3-1 at home on Saturday. Braylon Sayles finished with two hits and Luke Soper knocked in two runs for the Comets against Clinton. Soper earned the pitching win against Charlotte with eight strikeouts in four innings. Sayles tallied three hits and Hunter Fox knocked in two runs in the win. 

Napoleon Invitational: Columbia Central High School won the tournament with wins over Napoleon (16-1) and Stockbridge (14-4). Napoleon defeated Stockbridge 18-8 in game one. Grand Davis struck out six batters on the mound and collected two hits at the plate. Grant Bradley and Trent Jester also recorded a pair of hits against Stockbridge. Conor Rentfrow of Columbia Central had three hits and knocked in two runs and Blake Hoskins finished with three hits against Stockbridge. 

Battle Creek Central at Jackson: The Vikings earned a split against Battle Creek Central with an 8-6 win and an 11-3 loss. Jackson battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the 8-6 win at home. Cayman Harris finished with three hits in the win and Hayden Best won the game in relief for Jackson. Caden Bayer finished with two hits in the Jackson loss. The Vikings are 4-2 overall for the season.  

Concord Invitational: Concord High School defeated Athens 15-0 in the opening game of the tournament. The Yellow Jackets lost 6-5 in the championship game against Maple Valley. 

Northwest at Gabriel Richard: The Mounties lost 3-1 and 12-6 on Saturday at Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. Drew Maples pitched six inning and gave up only one earned run in game one. JR Morrow and Lonzy Robinson had two hits apiece in game one. Easton Nietzke, Robinson, and Kaleb Kittinger Munro each had a pair of hits in game two.

Softball

Concord Invitational: Concord High School lost to Athens, 19-1, but beat Britton Deerfield 18-0 in the second game. Riley Adams struck out three batters for Concord against Athens. Iyla Weeks had three hits and knocked in three runs for Concord against BD. The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in each of the first three innings to close out the contest. 

Northwest at Brighton Invitational: Northwest High School lost to Milford (7-3), defeated Lincoln (5-1), and tied Hill-McCloy 8-8 at the Brighton Invitational. Madi Dixon knocked in three runs in the win over Lincoln. Milford scored five runs in the first inning against Northwest. Dixon finished with two RBIs in the loss. Ava Golightly and Lucy Bivens each recorded a hit and a pair of RBIs against Hill-McCloy. 

Michigan Center at Hanover-Horton Invitational: Hanover-Horton High School defeated Dansville (7-0), lost to Tecumseh (10-0), but came back to defeated Michigan Center (19-1) at their tournament on Saturday. Dani Riggs and Mayson Scally each recorded three hits against Dansville. Alexyn DuBois finished with two of the Comets’ five hits against Tecumseh. The middle of the lineup did the damage against Michigan Center as Riggs knocked in five runs, Katie Stroede finished with four RBIs, and Lexi Schuette finished with three RBIs in scoring 19 runs. Michigan Center lost 7-3 against Addison, but defeated Pewamo-Westphalia 11-9 at Hanover-Horton. Mackenzie Fredrickson had two hits against Addison. The Cardinals scored five times in the fifth inning to pull out the win against PW. Kylie McKee enjoyed a big game with four hits and four RBIs for Michigan Center (2-3). 

Springport at Napoleon Invitational: Napoleon was 1-1 on the day with an 11-0 win over Springport and a 3-1 loss to Calvin Christian. Raye Burke held Springport to two hits and struck out 12 batters in the opening game of the tournament. Camryn Smilowski recorded two hits and three RBIs against the Spartans. Alyssa Budd, Karson Fairbanks, Maggie Beer, and Hayden Rendall each finished with two hits against Springport. Budd and Smilowski each finished with two hits apiece against Calvin. Springport lost to Napoleon and were defeated 16-2 against Calvin Christian at the Napoleon Invitational. Rachel Potter and Ava Lovely each finished with one hit and two RBIs against Calvin Christian. 

Grass Lake at Chelsea Invitational: Grass Lake High School defeated Chelsea (6-4), Woodhaven (3-0), and Eaton Rapids (12-2) on Saturday. Grass Lake scored four runs in the last three innings to pull out the win. Olivia Turner finished with three hits and two RBIs and Bree Salts recorded a pair of hits and three RBIs for the Warriors. Morgan Conrad earned the shutout against Woodhaven scattering six hits in seven innings pitched. Katelyn Postuma and Emily Brown had three hits apiece against Eaton Rapids.

Girls soccer

Jackson 8, Jonesville 0: The Vikings closed out the game eight minutes into the second half. Sydney Langley scored on a header off a corner kick for her fourth goal of the contest to close out the match. Rylie Dubois scored two goals, and Maria Velazquez and Sienna Tovar each added one goal for Jackson. Rylee DeMann and Tovar recorded the shutout in goal for the Vikings. 

Adrian 3, Western 1: The Panthers fell to 0-4 overall for the season with the road loss at Adrian. 

Girls tennis

Western at Holland Christian Quad: On Saturday, the Panthers played in the Holland Christian Quad and took third place behind Holland Christian and Forest Hills Eastern (both teams placed in the top 12 in the state last year).  Highlights included the girls sweeping Whitehall 9-0, Ali Carmody taking down Holland Christian’s No. 3 singles in a tough three-set match, and Becca Brushaber and Anna Wilcox defeating the No. 3 doubles team from Forest Hills Eastern in straight sets.
