Michigan Center 12, Sand Creek 3: Dylan Whitmill won the game for the Cardinals. 

Michigan Center 6, Constantine 5: Karter Hall knocked in the winning runs in the seventh inning for Michigan Center. The Cardinals won the Union City Tournament with a pair of wins. 

Coldwater 5, Hanover-Horton 4: The Comets lost to the host school at an invitational on Saturday. 

Hanover-Horton 15, Reed City 1: Jack Wooster, Braylon Sayles, and Travis Drennan all had multiple hits for the Comets. 

Schoolcraft 11, Hanover-Horton 4: Braylon Sayles had two of the Comets’ six hits in the tournament game at Coldwater High School. 

Columbia Central 4, Homer 2: Ryan Hammond finished with two hits for Columbia Central.

Columbia Central 12, Homer 10: Conor Rentfrow singled in the winning runs for the Golden Eagles. Ryan Whipple, Ryan Ladd, Rentfrow, Peyton Denning, and Ryan Hammond each collected multiple hits for CCHS (2-3).  

Softball

Columbia Central 18, Homer 4: The Golden Eagles scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to blow open the contest. Rylee Knapp recorded three hits and three RBIs for CCHS.  

Columbia Central 18, Homer 2: Bri Boone knocked in three runs for the Golden Eagles in the win. 

Athens 16, Concord 7: Maddie Barrett and Taylor Cole each had a pair of hits for Concord in the tournament loss at Union City. 

Union City 6, Concord 4: Union City scored two runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead. Maddie Barrett finished with three hits for Concord in the tournament game at Union City. 

Boys Track and field

Grass Lake Invitational: Grass Lake edged Quincy 104.5 – 104 to earn the title at their own invitational Saturday. Michigan Center finished seventh (41), Springport was ninth (32.5), and Jackson Prep placed 12th (14). Andrew Stockton won the 200-meter dash (23.72) for Grass Lake; teammate Emmet Van Cleave won the 3,200-meter run (11:27); the Warriors won the 400-meter relay (47.4) with Robert Anderson, Jack Pine, Jeff Peterson, and Stockton; and the 1,600-meter relay (3:49) with Stockton, Connor Million, Josh Postuma, and Tyler Chizek. Noah Wisnieski was second for Michigan Center in the 300-meter hurdles (44.14) and Diego BoCole of Jackson Prep was third in the 800-meter run (2:20). 

Western Quad Meet (from Thursday): Western High School easily won the quad meet with 88 points and Hanover-Horton was third scoring 33 points. The Panthers won three of the four relay events. Lucas Inosencio won the pole vault (11-0) and the low hurdles (46.8) for the Panthers. Graham Gumper of Hanover-Horton won the 100-meter dash in 11.58.  

Girls Track and field

Grass Lake Invitational: Grass Lake finished sixth (70.6), Springport was sixth (49.2), Michigan Center placed 10th (21.2), and Jackson Prep finished 12th (14). Grass Lake won the 800-meter relay (1:55) with Ava Viegelahn, Grace Bullock, Layne Terry, and Makenna Horodeczny; Olivia Ortell of Jackson Prep was second in the 800-meter run (2:45); and Saige Patterson of Springport placed second in the 3,200-meter run (14:36). 

Western Quad Meet (from Thursday): Hanover-Horton finished second with 36 points and Western was third scoring 33.5 points. Bayli Stewart of Western won the high jump (4-10) and the long jump (16-0.5). Olivianna Watkins won the low hurdles (50.82), and Sophia Reynolds took first place in the 400-meter dash (1:05) for the Comets.

Girls tennis

Western at Mason Quad: The Panther girls tennis team started their season at the Mason Invitational and finished tied for third against teams that ended 2022 in the top 12 of the state.  Highlights of the day included a second place finish for Becca Brushaber/Anna Wilcox at No. 3 doubles and third place finish for Natalie Hyde/Salena Vo at No. 5 doubles.
