A better night of shooting.

A solid defensive effort in the second half.

And pushing the tempo.

Those were some of the factors that Michigan Center High School used for its first girls’ basketball win of the season.

Three players scored in double figures as Michigan Center defeated Concord 55-37 on the road Thursday.

Both teams are 1-1 following the second game for each team.

Michigan Center used solid personal efforts by Kamryn Shannon and Julia Reynolds to take a halftime lead.

Reynolds scored 10 points in the first quarter as both teams marched up and down the court en route to a 16-all tie after eight minutes of action.

The Cardinals took the lead for good as Shannon scored nine points in the second quarter for a 34-28 halftime lead.

The Yellow Jackets could only muster six points in the third quarter, trailing by eight points heading into the final quarter.

Michigan Center put the game away with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Seven players scored for the Cardinals in the final quarter of action.

Reynolds finished with 18 points, Shannon finished with 16 points and four assists, and Samantha Wynn finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and four steals in the contest for Michigan Center.

Iyana Watson finished with a team-high seven rebounds for the Cardinals.

Concord was led by Jamiya Rogers with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals. Sophomore Maria Stevens tallied 10 points and a team-high 18 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
