Wrestling
East Jackson Quad: Manchester High School defeated Grass Lake 54-29 and Michigan Center 53-12. Chase Short of Michigan Center earned a pin at 190 pounds. Gunnar Harbottle (126) and Justice Payne (132) won by pins against for Michigan Center against the Flying Dutchmen.
Napoleon Quad meet: The Pirates finished tied with Homer, 36-all, but defeated Vandercook Lake 78-6. Logan Hartman (120) and Dallas Mead (132) both earned a pair of pin in the quad meet for Napoleon.
Jonesville Quad: Columbia Central defeated Addison 39-34 but lost to Jonesville 52-24 at JHS Wednesday.
Boys Bowling
Columbia Central 19, Michigan Center 11: Landon Miller and Christopher Holcomb lead Columbia Central with 188 games. The Golden Eagles are 3-1 so far this season.
Grass Lake 30, Vandercook Lake 0: The Warriors earned a home win at Suburban Lanes. Brice Sandoval rolled a 471 series and Frank Bednarski rolled a 213 game to pace Grass Lake.
Girls Bowling
Columbia Central 28, Michigan Center 2: Columbia Central High School earned a win at Suburban Lanes Wednesday. Alexis Henry rolled a 431 series and Kayleigh Molnar rolled a 202 game for CCHS (4-0).
Grass Lake 29, Vandercook Lake 1: Grass Lake High School earned an easy win at home Wednesday.
College Athletic Events
Women’s Basketball
Jackson College 82, Kalamazoo College 54: The Jets improved to 10-1 overall with the home win against Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Zoie Bamm finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Kiyla Brooks added 10 points and four steals for Jackson College. Eight players scored at least seven points in the game for JC. The Jets will host Terra State Saturday at 1 p.m. in their last game before the winter break.
Men’s Basketball
Madonna University 84, Spring Arbor 65: Gabe Newhof scored 17 points, Kevyn Robertson added 16 points, and Travis Grayson finished with 15 points for SAU (8-4).
Kalamazoo Valley Community College 82, Jackson College 70: Savonn Campbell and Jay Wambere each finished with 15 points to lead the Jets. Brayden Pearson added 11 points and Campbell tallied 13 rebounds for Jackson College (5-5). The Jets will host Terra State at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Awards
Lumen Christi Catholic High School defensive lineman Luke Smith helped the Titans earn its second consecutive Division 7 football title in 2023. Smith was chosen as a Division 7 all-state defensive lineman by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. LCCHS gave up less than seven points per game in going 13-1 this season. Smith finished with 36 tackles and 29 assists for a total of 65 tackles from his defensive lineman position in 2023.
