
Girls Basketball
Columbia Central 69, East Jackson 32: Hailey Freshcorn scored 23 points and Cecelia Slat added 12 points for Columbia Central in the Cascades Conference road win. Eight players scored for CCHS in the win. Mariah Kerley finished with nine points to lead East Jackson. Columbia Central is 3-1 while East Jackson fell to 1-4 with the home loss.

Grass Lake 54, Jonesville 25: Mya Viegelahn scored 19 points and Kate Starkey added 16 points for the Warriors in the home win. Olivia Turner finished with eight points and Kara Staub added seven points and five rebounds for Grass Lake (5-1). The Warriors are on a five-game winning streak following the win.

Hanover-Horton 33, Napoleon 26: Tracy Ackley scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds and Maggie Soper added nine points and eight steals for Hanover-Horton (4-1). Napoleon’s Maggie Beer led all scorers with 14 points. The Pirates are 1-3 on the season with the home loss.

Michigan Center 68, Vandercook Lake 4: Julia Reynolds had 12 points, Aaralyn Tripp added 11 points, and Hailey Mees had six steals, six assists, and five rebounds Michigan Center. The Cardinals are 6-0 on the season with the home Cascades Conference victory while Vandercook Lake is 0-3 since returning to a varsity schedule.
College Athletic Events
Spring Arbor at Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational: Spring Arbor University is 14th after six rounds of team bowling in the men’s competition. The Cougars finished day one of the tournament with 5,682. Collin Massie is 15th individually with 1,219 through six games. The Cougars are seventh in the women’s competition scoring 5,560. Kayla Tafanelli is 10th individually averaging nearly 201 per game after six games.
Awards

Iyla Weeks of Concord High School earned all-state honorable-mention honors in Division 3 as voted on by members of the Michigan Volleyball Coaches Association. Weeks, a junior, is in the process of rewriting the Yellow Jackets record book. She set a school record for kills in a season (723), hit the 1,000 kill mark earlier in the season, and finishing this season with a three-year total of 1,084. She was also voted all-conference, all-region, and MVP for the Concord team in 2023.
