Boys Basketball

Jackson Christian 47, North Adams-Jerome 28: Three players scored in double digits for Jackson Christian. Isaac Lanham scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, and created six steals, Aaden Breton scored 12 points, and Christian Guerrero added 11 points for Jackson Christian (2-5 overall). The win ended a five-game winless streak for the Royals. 

Girls Basketball

Grass Lake 47, Olivet 22: The Warriors earned a road non-conference win Wednesday against Olivet. 

Lumen Christi 40, Jackson 25: The Titans are now 6-0 on the season with the crosstown rivalry win at home Wednesday. Allison O’Dowd scored 14 points, Codi Ruge added seven points, and Kathleen Doane finished with six points for Lumen Christi. 

Michigan Center 55, Lenawee Christian 35: Michigan Center improved to 7-0 on the season with the win at LCHS. Aaralyn Tripp finished with a career-high 17 points and grabbed five rebounds for MCHS in the win. Julia Reynolds added nine points and five steals. 

Stockbridge 51, East Jackson 44

Springport 65, Homer 45: The Spartans had another fast start scoring 24 points in the first quarter. Maddux Locke finished with 27 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, and five steals for Springport. Chloey Speer scored 13 points and Rylee Sierfert scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Spartans. Emma Jones scored 16 points to lead Homer. 

Wrestling

Columbia Central Quad: Napoleon High School went 2-0 on the night with victories over Columbia Central (51-21) and Leslie (42-35). Columbia Central defeated Hanover-Horton 42-29 to open the match. Auden Kennedy, Shane Taylor, Hunter Czubachowski, and Dylan Boone ended the evening with one win each for CCHS. Joey Donahee earned a pair of pins for Napoleon at 144 pounds. Earning wins in contested matches against Leslie were Tristan Taylor (113), John Sleight-Zelenick (132), Carson Warner (157), Brady Warner (190), and Dallas Smith (215). 

Jackson Girls at Mt. Morris: Sienna Tovar of Jackson won the title in the girls’ event at Mt. Morris. Tovar won the 145-pound division with a pin in the finals. Aiyana Walker finished second for Jackson in the 170-pound weight division and Kaylee Bonner was fourth for the Vikings at 235 pounds. 

Dundee 52, Northwest 19: Blaine Anspaugh (138) and Dontez Eubanks (126) earned pins against the six-time defending state champions in Division 3. 

Hudson 40, Northwest 24: Aidyn Williams (285) and Thomas Fall (113) earned pins against Hudson – winners of the Division 4 title five of the last seven seasons. 

Western 46, Hillsdale 27: Josh Corts (175), Ronald London (285), Hezekiah Gin (106), Kaden Engelter (113), Elijah Crist (126), and Owen St. Andre (150) earned pins for the Panthers.

Boys Bowling

Jonesville 24, Columbia Central 6:  Ethan Senkewitz led CCHS with a 205 game followed by Brenden Bernstein with a 174. 

East Jackson 22.5, Leslie 7.5

Western 30, Jackson 0: The Panthers earned win at JAX 60 Wednesday as Buster Marr finished with a 443 series. Austin Ball rolled a 195 game and Reed Vallie added a 191 game for Western. 

Michigan Center 17.5, Manchester 12.5: The Cardinals earned a home win at Suburban Lanes Wednesday. 

Napoleon 29, East Jackson 1: Ethan Rose bowled a 247 game and Payton Thorne added a 224 game for the Pirates. 

Girls Bowling

Jonesville 27, Columbia Central 3: Jonesville earned the battle of undefeated team in the Cascades Conference at JAX 60 Wednesday. Alexis Henry led Columbia Central with 169 game followed by Kayleigh Molnar with 161. 

Western 27, Jackson 3: Gabby Semenchuck rolled a 170 game leading Western to the win at JAX 60. Kiley Bieskie finished with a 157 game and Madason McDonald rolled a 153 game for the Panthers. 

Michigan Center 27, Manchester 3: Michigan Center earned a home Cascades Conference win Wednesday at Suburban Lanes. 

East Jackson 28, Napoleon 2: Sydney Gallagher finished with a 483 series for Napoleon. Tessa Wyngaert finished with a 266 series for East Jackson. 

Hockey

Chelsea 5, Jackson United 2: Jackson United fell at Optimist Ice Arena Wednesday in the early contest. Riley Rogers and Wyatt Boteler scored goals for Jackson United (2-7). 

Lumen Christi 10, Ann Arbor Huron 1: The Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period thanks to a pair of goals by Isaac Rehberg. Michael Palmer earned the win in goal for Lumen Christi (6-1-1). 

College Athletic Events

Bowling

Spring Arbor at Collegiate Shootout: Spring Arbor is 10th in the women’s tournament with 5,493 in the opening round. Kayla Tafanelli is currently 23rd for SAU individually in the tournament. SAU is 17th in the tournament with 5,935. Brayden Metcalf is 29th in the individual standings averaging 210 per game for the Cougars. The tournament continues today in Las Vegas. 

Women’s Basketball

Spring Arbor 88, Michigan-Dearborn 53: Alana Nelson continued her solid play with 27 points and nine rebounds for Spring Arbor. Alex Long scored 18 points and Emma Smieska added 10 points and eight rebounds for SAU (10-2). 

Awards

Natalee Krage

Hanover-Horton High School volleyball player Natalee Krage did it all of the Comets in volleyball in 2023. The senior was named a Division 3 all-state honorable mention player by the Michigan High School Volleyball Coaches Association in 2023. Krage finished her career with 1,727 assists for the Comets at the setter position. She also finished the 2023 season with 915 assists, 216 digs, 37 blocks, and a serve percentage of 91 percent.
