MHSAA Girls’ Regionals

Blue Regional at Hartford: Three area wrestlers earned trips to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state finals on Sunday by placing in the top eight in their respective weight classes. Sienna Tovar of Jackson finished third at 135 pounds, teammate Natalie Tobey was fifth at 155 pounds; and Bella Huston of Columbia Central finished fifth at 190 pounds. The finals will be held on March 4, 5 at Ford Field in Detroit. Wrestlers will be competing in each weight class with 16-player brackets. The top eight earn all-state medals. 

Red Regional at Howell: Danni Swihart of Hanover-Horton finished second in the 135 pound weight class to qualify for the MHSAA state finals. She won three-of-four matches at the Howell High School regional on Sunday. Isabel Worthing of East Jackson also finished second in her weight class (140 pounds). She will also advance to the state finals on March 4, 5, at Ford Field in Detroit. Kayla Winget of East Jackson finished fifth at 145 pounds to qualify for the state meet. She won 3-of-5 matches at the regional.

 

Boys Bowling

Cascades Singles: Steven Tripp of East Jackson won the Cascades Singles Tournament at JAX 60 on Sunday. The tournament counts as 50 percent toward Cascades Conference all-conference honors. Tripp finished the six-game tournament with 1,257. Dustin Moeckel of Napoleon was second (1,200); Brenton Cochrane of Grass Lake placed third (1,180), Bryce Blackledge of Hanover-Horton finished seventh (1,111), Parker Horvath was eight for Grass Lake (1,107), and Jack Marshall of Grass Lake finished 10th (1,102). All-conference honors will be announced following one final dual meet later in the week. 

Girls Bowling

Cascades Singles: Taylor Mosher of Grass Lake won the Cascades Singles Tournament at JAX 60 on Sunday with a six-game total of 1,188. The tournament counts as 50 percent toward Cascades Conference all-conference honors. Alexa Brzyski of Napoleon finished third (1,039), Kaelin Pond of Michigan Center placed fourth (975), Paige Hubert of Grass Lake finished sixth (956), teammate Alyssa Schultz was seventh (939), Tessa Wyngaert of East Jackson finished eighth (910), and EJHS teammate Desiree Poole was ninth (902). All-conference honors will be announced following one final dual meet later in the week. 

Gymnastics

Vassar Invitational: Jackson Area Gymnastics finished third with 133.6 at the Vassar Invitational on Saturday. Melody Placeway took second in the bars (8.5) and Ally Thrun was second on the floor exercise (9.25) and third on the bars (8.15). Tec/Man/CC 133.35 (fourth).
