Baseball

Napoleon 1, Columbia Central 0: The Pirates squeezed across one run in the Michigan Sports Facility Wooden Bat Classic at Onsted High School on Friday. Quentin Serafin knocked in the only run of the game for Napoleon. Grant Bradley struck out 10 batters for Napoleon in a pitching duel with Layne Myers for CCHS won struck out eight batters.

Addison 10, Columbia Central 2: Ashton Ballach had an RBI for Columbia Central in the consolation game of the Wooden Bat Classic. 

Onsted 4, Napoleon 3: The Pirates scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead, but Onsted scored twice in the bottom of the inning in the Michigan Sports Facility Wooden Bat Classic championship game at Onsted. Tyler Schneider had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs for Napoleon (8-7 overall). 

Britton Deerfield 7, East Jackson 5: The Trojans scored three runs in the fifth inning but could not catch BD in game two. The Patriots gained a split on Friday afternoon.

East Jackson 8, Britton Deerfield 6: East Jackson scored five times in the second inning. 

Lumen Christi 9, Michigan Center 0: Cole Clifford had two hits and two RBIs for the Titans. 

Tecumseh 10, Northwest 3: Easton Neitzke had a pair of hits for the Mounties in the loss.

Tecumseh 6, Northwest 2: The Indians are now 6-0 against Jackson-area schools. 

Softball

Western 15, Columbia Central 1: Chloe Hoxie had two hits and two RBIs for Western. Hailey Whisman struck out seven batters and limited the Golden Eagles to one hit. 

Western 6, Columbia Central 5: Abby Nieswender had two hits and Ashley Williams struck out 11 batters on the mound for the Mounties. Kanadee Tompkins recorded two hits for the Golden Eagles. 

Grass Lake 10, Leslie 7: Rylee Fitzpatrick had three hits and tallied three RBIs for the Warriors. 

Grass Lake 7, Leslie 3: Grass Lake player Rylee Fitzpatrick collected three home hits for Grass Lake (17-0). 

Tecumseh 16, Jackson 0: Jayla Oberst had a hit for the Vikings.

Tecumseh 18, Jackson 3: Hailey Rodriguez, Felicia Huffman, and Maya Saxton each had RBIs for Jackson.

Girls

Stockbridge Invitational: Western High School finished second (151) in the girls’ meet, finishing behind Pewamo -Westphalia. Hanover-Horton finished fourth (29.5) and Northwest fifth (28). Alyna Lewis won the 800-meter run for Western (2:23); the Panthers won the 400-meter relay (54.97) with Jocie Berry, Anna McDonald, Lauren Eisele, and Rosine Oloni; Lili Luma, Berry, Lewis, and Oloni won the 800-meter relay (1:52) for Western; Anna Burk, Luma, Kendall Robertson, and Lewis won the 1,600-meter relay (4:15) for Western; Lily Kucharek won the shot put (38-2) and the discus (103-5) for Western; Burk took first for Western in the high jump (5-0); and Julia Warneck of Northwest won the long jump (15-0.75). 

Harper Creek 79, Lumen Christi 34, Marshall 15: Renae Kutcha won the 100-meter dash (13.15), the 200-meter dash (26.79), and the 400-meter dash (1:00) for the Titans. Madison Osterberg won the 800-meter run (2:26) and the 1,600-meter run (5:29) for Lumen Christi. Kutcha, Lile Beebe, Osterberg, and Sarah Anastasiadis won the 1,600-meter relay (4:34) for Lumen Christi. 

East Jackson Dome Classic: Napoleon High School finished second (130) to Olivet (183) at the annual event. Grass Lake was third (106), Michigan Center was sixth (38), East Jackson placed seventh (33), and Columbia Central was eighth (27). Lexus Bargesser of Grass Lake took first place in the 100-meter dash (12.38), the 200-meter dash (25.96), and the 400-meter dash (56.98); Brynn Mericle of East Jackson won the 300-meter hurdles (52.46); Grass Lake won the 1,600-meter relay (4:15) with Kailee Sandoval, Madison Basham, Ava Viegelahn, and Bargesser; Jennifer Sherwood of Grass Lake won the shot put (33-11) and the discus (103-10; Jordyn Richardson of Michigan Center won the high jump (4-8); Addisyn Rudd of East Jackson won the pole vault (8-6); and Amelia Jonas won the long jump (14-6.5). 

Boys

Stockbridge Invitational: Western High School finished second (136.5) in the boys’ meet. Hanover-Horton placed fourth (53) and Northwest was eighth (7.5). Jayden Horhn of Western won the 100-meter dash (11.64) and was second in the 200-meter dash (24.2). Dean Reynolds won the 800-meter for Hanover-Horton (2:04) and the 1,600-meter run (4:31). Jacob Singleton of Western won the 3,200-meter run (9:56). Western won the 1,600-meter relay (3:37) with Bode Brown, Kayden Schrock, Ethan Zuke, and Logan Coleman and took first in the 3,200-meter relay with Michael Rand, Coleman, Singleton, and Zuke.  

Harper Creek 100, Marshall 28, Lumen Christi 7: Alex Pastioza finished third in the 200-meter dash (25.1) and third in the 400-meter dash (57.91) for the Titans. 

East Jackson Dome Classic: Grass Lake finished second (145) to Olivet (219) on Friday at East Jackson. Napoleon placed third (88.5), Michigan Center finished fifth (59), Columbia Central scored sixth (41.5), and East Jackson was eighth (9). Brennan Bargesser of Grass Lake won the 100-meter dash in 11.09 seconds and first in the 200-meter dash in 22.34 seconds. Alex Darnell of Napoleon won the 800-meter run (2:09); Jack Easterday of Grass Lake won the 110-meter hurdles (16.32), the 300-meter hurdles (42.89), and the high jump (6-0); Bargesser, Josh Sherwood, Andrew Stockton, and Trenton Holden of Grass Lake won the 400-meter relay (45.43); and Bargesser, Sherwood, Stockton, and Gus Vitale won the 800-meter relay (1:33.64). 

Girls’ soccer

Columbia Central 4, Dundee 1: Mia Taylor and Gracelyn Miller scored goals for the Golden Eagles in the first half. Katie Taylor and Lilli Johnson scored for CCHS in the second half. Columbia Central played with 10 players again. 

Leslie 6, Grass Lake 5: Grass Lake lost a home contest to the Blackhawks on Friday. 

Kalamazoo Christian 2, Lumen Christi 1: The Titans fell on the road Friday afternoon.  

Western 4, Hastings 1: The Panthers are 6-0-2 in their last eight matches. 

Boys’ golf

Jackson Area Invitational: Hanover-Horton High School edged Saline by one stroke at the Jackson Area Invitational on Friday at Cascades Golf Course. The Comets shot 334, Saline finished at 335, Lumen Christi took third with 351, Leslie shot 352, Jackson was fifth with 355, Northwest placed sixth at 368, Napoleon took seventh place scoring 371, East Jackson took ninth place with 398, Michigan Center placed 10th scoring 402, Western was 11th at 418, Grass Lake took 12th place with 421, and Jackson Christian shot 494. Cannon Risner of Leslie and Justin Bunch of Jackson tied for medalist honors with 74s, Brogan Brockie of Hanover-Hon finished third, Colin Norton of Jackson shot 76, Ben Maino of East Jackson finished tied with Evan Brzyski of Napoleon at 78, Brendan Stevens of Lumen Christi tied for eighth scoring 82, and Logan Baum of Western and Brady Applegate of Hanover-Horton tied for 10th at 84. 

Girls’ tennis

Lumen Christi 7, Coldwater 1 

PGA
 
Normally an over-par round on the PGA Tour sends a player reeling. Brian Stuard shot a 2-over-par 73 on Friday at the Wells Fargo Championship, but managed to stay in the top 25. A windy day greeted golfers at the Charlotte, N.C. course. Stuard is currently tied for 24th with a two-day total of 1-under par. He is expected to tee off today in the third round at 11:40 a.m.
