Boys’ High School Golf
Division 1 at Forest Akers West: Jackson High School golfer Justin Bunch shot a 1-over-par 73 on Friday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 state golf finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Bunch is currently 11th overall in the individual competition, one stroke out of a top-10 medal. The JHS senior will play 18 more holes on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
Division 3 at The Meadows Golf Course: Hanover-Horton High School is currently third at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state golf finals at The Meadows. The Comets scored a four-man total of 321 on Friday – trailing Grand Rapids Catholic (306) and Big Rapids (320). Brogan Brockie shot a 73, Kyler Rod finished with a 78, and Ryder Pickering and Brady Applegate shots 85s for Hanover-Horton. Brockie is tied for fourth individually heading into the second round. P.J. Maybank of Cheyboygan shot a 6-under-par 66 on Friday. Evan Brzyski of Napoleon shot a 78 and is tied for 15th after the first round – three shots out of a top-10 medal at the event. The tournament will conclude Saturday with 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m.
Division 4 at The Fortress: Ben Maino of East Jackson High School shot a 7-over-par 79 on Friday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state finals at The Fortress Golf Course near Frankenmuth. He is currently 13th overall, one stroke out of a top-10 medal. The tournament concludes Saturday with 18 holes.
Division 3: Lumen Christi Catholic High School will face Riverview Gabriel Richard on Saturday in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 regional final at 12:30 p.m. at Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett. The winner advances to the quarterfinals against the winner of Blissfield/Grosse Pointe Woods in a game scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday at Grosse Pointe.
Division 4: Concord High School will face Three Oaks River Valley at 10 a.m. at Decatur High School in the regional final. The winner will advance to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. The regional winner will face the winner of Kalamazoo Hackett/Colon regional on Saturday at DHS.
Division 3: Napoleon High School will face Clinton in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 regional semifinal at Michigan Center on Saturday. The two teams will face off at 10 a.m. The winner will face the winner of Leslie/Quincy at 2:30 p.m. at MCHS in the regional final.
Division 4: Vandercook Lake High School will face Dansville in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 regional semifinal at Concord High School at noon on Saturday. The winner will face the winner of Whiteford/Morenci in the regional final scheduled for 2 p.m. at CHS.
Napoleon High School graduate Brian Stuard missed the cut at the Palmetto Championship at Congaree on the PGA Tour. He shot rounds of 73 and 74 to miss the 36-hole cut. Stuard qualified for the U.S. Open next week near San Diego.
