Division 1

District 10 at Richland Gull Lake

Holt 13, Jackson 3: Jackson finishes the season at 4-22-1 with the loss against Holt at Richland Gull Lake. 

Division 2

District 50 at Fowlerville

Eaton Rapids 8, Western 5: Ethan Trader had three hits and knocked in two runs for Western (16-13).  

 

Division 3

District 81 at Homer

Lumen Christi 12, Jonesville 2: Owen Garcia recorded four hits in the district semifinal against Jonesville. 

Hanover-Horton 5, Quincy 4: Garrett Gumper had two hits and knocked in two runs for the Comets. Hunter Fox struck out six batters on the mound for HHHS. 

District final

Lumen Christi 15, Hanover-Horton 0: Owen Garcia finished with seven hits on the day for the Titans. Lumen Christi will face Dansville on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Homer High School in the regional tournament. 

District 82 at Dansville

Stockbridge 13, Springport 2: The Spartans finished the season with a 2-23 record. 

District 83 at Clinton

Manchester 8,  Michigan Center 2: Kayden Hiland had two hits for the Cardinals in the loss. Michigan Center finishes the season with a 15-9 overall record. 

Clinton 14, Grass Lake 4: The Warriors finish the 2021 season with a 14-5 record. 

Division 4

District 121 at East Jackson

Lansing Christian 4, East Jackson 3: Lansing Christian scored one run in the seventh inning to pull out the win. The Pilgrims won the district title with a win in the championship game. 

Softball Districts

Division 1

District 11 at Holt

Battle Creek Lakeview 13, Jackson 0: Holt won the district with a win over Lakeview in the final. 

Division 2

District 46 at Western High School

Western 9,  Mason 6: Ashley Williams had three hits and Hailey Whisman struck out seven batters on the mound for Western. 

Olivet 8, Eaton Rapids 3: Olivet advanced to the district final with the win. 

Final 

Olivet 6, Western 3: Western High School finished the season with a 26-10 record. Olivia Vowels knocked in two runs for Western in the district final. 

Division 3

District 81 at Homer High School

Jonesville 7, Hanover-Horton 1: Alexis Flint struck out seven batters for Hanover-Horton (21-16). 

District 82 at Lumen Christi

Stockbridge 7, Michigan Center 2: Madison Whipple had a pair of hits for the Cardinals. 

Leslie 15, Lumen Christi 0: The Blackhawks scored 13 times in the second inning to pull out the win. 

District 83 at Onsted

Hudson 8, Onsted 0: Hudson won the Lenawee County contest in the district opener. 

Napoleon 7, Grass Lake 3: Karson Fairbanks finished with four hits and Raye Burke struck out five batters for the Pirates. Laney Brown finished with five strikeouts for Grass Lake (33-4). 

Napoleon 11, Hudson 1: Becca Daoust had three hits and Elissa Omey knocked in four RBIs for Napoleon (27-8). Napoleon will face Clinton in the regional round at Michigan Center on Saturday at 10 a.m. 

Boys Track and field

Division 1 at East Kentwood: Olando Trader was 14th in the 100-meter dash (11.37 seconds) and 16th in the 200-meter dash (22.69) for Jackson. 

Division 2 boys at Zeeland East: Jacob Tidwell finished tied for 10th in the pole vault (12-4). 

Division 3 at Jenison: Grass Lake High School won the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 team title with 68 points – scoring twice as many as second-place Benzie Central. Brennen Bargesser won the 100-meter dash (11.0), the 200-meter dash (22.6), and the 400-meter dash (49.1). Also earning all-state honors by finishing in the top eight were: Dean Reynolds of Hanover-Horton won the 800-meter run (1:55); Rogan Melling of Hanover-Horton was eighth in the 3,200-mete run (10:09); Jack Easterday of Grass Lake was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.86) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (42.4); Grass Lake won the 400-meter relay (44.43) with Trenton Holden, Andrew Stockton, Josh Sherwood, and Bargesser; the Warriors were eighth in the 800-meter relay (1:33.9) with a team of Easterday, Gus Vitale, Stockton, and Sherwood; Connor Viegelahn of Grass Lake tied for second in the pole vault (12-9); and Holden of GLHS was fourth in the discus (139-2) despite being the No. 17 seed heading into the finals. Josh Sherwood of Grass Lake was fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.36) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.59).

Division 4 at Hudsonville: A young Concord High School track and field team finished fourth with 31 points in the Division 4 final. Athletes finishing in the top eight to earn all-state honors were: Mekhi Wingfield was third in the long jump (21-5.25) for the Yellow Jackets; Concord was fifth in the 3,200-meter relay (8:32) with Adair Artis, Joe Bulko, Luke Holton, and Jonathan Mikovits; Concord was fifth in the 800-meter relay (1:33) with Tyler Carpenter, Wingfield, Chuckie King, and Javion Taylor; The Yellow Jackets were third in the 400-meter relay (44.48) with Carpenter, Wingfield, Malachi Boyd, and Taylor; Mikovits of Concord was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:01); and Concord finished third in the 1,600-meter relay (3:35) with Holton, Artis, Mikovits, and King. Only King and Holton are seniors for Concord. Austin McKessy of East Jackson finished ninth in the 400-meter run (53.39) and Daniel Casey of Jackson Prep was 20th in the 1,600-meter run (4:54). 

Girls Track and Field

Division 2 at Zeeland East: Western High School finished runner-up in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 state finals at Zeeland East. The Panthers finished with 29 points, finishing behind Petoskey with 48 points. Panthers earning all-state honors by finishing in the top eight in their events were: Alyna Lewis was third in the 800-meter run (2:16); Anna Burk finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (47.88); Western finished second in the 400-meter relay (50.62) with Jocie Berry, Lilli Luma, Rosine Oloni, and Lewis; the Panthers finished second in the 1,600-meter relay (4:05) with Burk, Luma, Kendall Robertson, and Lewis; and Lily Kucharek was fifth in the shot put (38-7). Northwest athlete Julia Warneck finished 16th in the long jump (14-9.25). 

Division 3 at Jenison: The small but mighty team from Grass Lake tied for the state title (with Powamo-Westphalia)  at the Division 3 state finals at Jenison High School. Both teams tied with 41 points, both earning state title status. Lumen Christi finished ninth (22 points), Michigan Center tied for 40th (4 points), and Hanover-Horton tied for 55th place (1 point). Lexus Bargesser drove the Warriors to the win with victories in the 100-meter dash (12.12 seconds), the 200-meter dash (25.3), and the 400-meter dash (55.45) for a new Division 3 record in the event. Others earning top-eight all-state honors were: Renae Kutcha of Lumen Christi was third in the 400-meter dash (57.93); Madison Osterberg of Lumen Christi fourth in the 800-meter run (2:15) and third in the 1,600-meter run (5:08); Kailee Sandoval of Grass Lake was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:18); Kathryn Childs of Hanover-Horton was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.97); Grass Lake was second in the 1,600-meter relay (4:08) with Sandoval, Madison Basham, Ava Viegelahn, and Bargesser; and Elly Trefry of Michigan Center was fifth in the pole vault (10-0).

Division 4 at Hudsonville: Concord High School tied for 40th with four points, East Jackson was 43rd with 3.75 points, and Vandercook Lake scored 1 point. Earning all-state honors were: Addisyn Rudd of East Jackson tied for seventh in the pole vault (8-3); Concord was fifth in the 3,200-meter relay (10:39) with Rylee Weeks, Jacey Hutchins, Skylar Thompson, and Shianne Alejandro; Kylie Baldwin of Vandercook was eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.41); and Brynn Mericle of East Jackson was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (49.54). 

Girls’ tennis

Division 3: Teagan Robertson and Alena Engle of Western High School lost 6-1 and 6-2 in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 semifinals at No. 4 doubles. Western finished the state finals with six points, tying for 12th place in the state.
