Baseball

Northwest 12, Michigan Center 3: Gage Race had three hits and knocked in two runs for the Mounties in the win. JR Morrow earned the pitching win with five strikeouts on the mound. 

Northwest 13, Michigan Center 1: Easton Neitzke collected two hits and knocked in three runs for the Mounties. Ethan Anspaugh struck out five batters for Northwest. The Cardinals could only muster six hits in the doubleheader at home on Friday. 

Softball

Napoleon 18, Onsted 0: Marissa Davis pitched a three-inning no-hitter and knocked in three runs at the plate for the Pirates. Elissa Omey finished with a pair of hits and four RBIs. 

Napoleon 15, Onsted 0: Rayne Burke struck out seven batters and allowed only one hit for the Pirates. Alyssa Budd finished with three hits and three RBIs for Napoleon (16-7). 

Northwest 8, Leslie 0: Nevaeh Ingram of Northwest High School threw another no-hitter, recording 13 strikeouts in the process. She also tallied three hits at the plate. Katelyn Kennedy finished with two hits and four RBIs for Northwest (21-2). 

Vandercook Lake 9, Columbia Central 2: Anna Macomber hit her seventh home run of the season in the win for the Jayhawks. 

Western 3, Holt 0: Jaymee Herrington had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs for the Panthers in the win. 

Track and field

Manchester Metrics: Adrian Madison High School won both events. Napoleon placed second in the girls’ meet, Michigan Center was fourth, and Columbia Central took sixth place. In the boys’ meet, Napoleon finished third, Michigan Center was fourth, and Columbia Central placed sixth. Michigan Center won the 100/100/200/400-meter relay (1:46) with a team of Cameron Pickett, Lucas Maier, Zach Levy, and Jaiden Tilford. Napoleon won the 1,200/400/800/1,600-meter relay (12:01) with Hugo Gamez, Jacob Darling, Josh Darling, and Alex Darnell. In the girls’ meet, Napoleon won the 6,400-meter relay (24:55) with Madelyn Norman, Ann Joseph, Katelyn Smilowski, and Olivia Darnell. The Pirates also won the 1,200/400/800/1,600-meter relay (15:18) with Darnell and Ava, Emily, and Katelyn Smilowski. Napoleon also won the discus and shot put team events, Elly Trefry of Michigan Center won the pole vault (9-3), and the Cardinals won the 400-meter throwers relay (1:01) with a team of Arissa Fisher, Kayla Fleming, Kylie Wildt, and Madelynn Esham. 

Jackson at SEC final: Jackson High School finished sixth as a team in the girls’ meet and seventh in the boys.  The Vikings finished second in the 800-meter relay (1:32) with Nathan Hobbs, Shaun Smith, Micah Conner, and Olando Trader. Trader also finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.0). In the girls’ meet, Keiyera Johnson was second in the 300-meter hurdles (49.95) and Kyla Johnson finished fourth in the long jump (13-6) for the Vikings. 

Girls’ soccer

Lumen Christi 2, Western 0: Lumen Christi Catholic High School secured the No. 2 seed in the Interstate Eight Conference tournament next week with the win on the road Friday night. Reese Kelly and Khiya Hunt scored goals for the Titans and Izzy Ermatinger earned the shutout in goal with 13 saves. Kendall Robertson stopped seven shots in goal for the Panthers. Marshall won the conference regular season with a 6-0-1 record, the Titans are second at 6-1-0, and Western is third at 5-1-1. 

Marshall 1, Northwest 0: The Redhawks earned the regular season title with a 1-0 win at Northwest on Friday.

Boys’ golf

LCAA jamboree at Clinton: Columbia Central finished fifth with a four-man total of 212 for nine holes. Hillsdale won the event at 186. Lucas Bull shot a 51 to lead the Golden Eagles. 

Big Eight at Union City: Springport High School won another jamboree with a four-man total of 173 and Concord finished third at 195. Tanner Benden shot a 40 and Vance Brown carded a 42 to lead the Spartans. Sam Helmbreck shot a 43 to lead the Yellow Jackets. 

Grass Lake Invitational: Hanover-Horton High School defeated Jackson by 11 strokes at the Grass Lake Invitational at Hill’s Heart of the Lakes Golf Course in Brooklyn. The Comets finished with a four-man total of 321 for 18 holes. Napoleon placed fifth (358), Grass Lake was sixth (361), Michigan Center finished seventh (371), East Jackson was eighth (396), and Grass Lake #2 finished 10th (473). Jackson golfers Justin Bunch (70) and Colin Norton (73) were first and third respectively in the tournament. Evan Brzyski of Napoleon was second (71) and Brogan Brockie of Hanover-Horton finished fourth (74). 

Girls’ tennis

SMITL final at CCHS: Columbia Central High School won the Southern Michigan Independent Tennis league title at home on Friday. CCHS Coach Dana Daniels believes it is the first SMITL title for the girls’ program. Sydnee Miller (2S), Emma Moore (3S), and Lily Ellison (4S) won singles titles for the Golden Eagles. 

Dexter 6, Jackson 2: Delaney Jones won for the Vikings at No. 2 singles, and the No. 1 doubles team of Purvaja Pisupati/Eva Curtis won 6-3 and 6-4. 

Lumen Christi 8, Northwest 0: Maggie Page won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for Lumen Christi (11-3). Quinn White/Alexa Thompson won a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 match at No. 1 doubles. 

PGA Tour

Jackson native Brian Stuard shot his second consecutive 3-under-par 69 at the AT&T Byron Nelson Tournament on the PGA Tour Friday. He made the cut – moving up 24 spots on Friday – and is tied for 53rd heading into Saturday’s round. Stuard is schedule to tee off at 8 a.m. Saturday at the TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
