Western Invitational: Local wrestlers won a slew of medals at the annual Jim Dewland Invitational at Western High School. Nathan Ostrosky of Columbia Central was second at 106 and Cayley Britton finished fifth in the same weight class; Christian Millican of Columbia Central finished second at 113; Jordan Cromwell of CCHS also finished second at 120 pounds; Elijah Crist of Western was fifth at 126; Tobin Okoniewski placed second at 132 and Quinn Ferris finished fifth; Owen St. Andre of Western defeated teammate Collin Doederlein for the 138 pound title, Hunter Czubachowski of Columbia Central was fifth, and Sukhman Singh of Western placed sixth; Nolan Wahtola of Western was fourth at 144 and Reid Garcia of Lumen Christi placed fifth; Titan Parker was fifth and teammate Jackson Jones was sixth at 150 for Western; Adam Carlson of Western was fourth at 157 and teammate Gabe Hines finished sixth; Alex White of Western finished fifth at 165 pounds; Ty Farmer of Columbia Central defeated Alex Trudell of Western for the 175 pound title; Aidan Duncan of Western won the 215 pound title and Garrett Slider of Lumen Christi placed third; and A.J. Scutt was third and Ron London finished fifth for Western at 285 pounds. Western finished second in the team competition (203.5), Columbia Central was fifth (109), Lumen Christi was ninth (59), and Vandercook Lake placed 13th (9).
Concord, Napoleon at Dansville Invitational: Napoleon and Concord high schools went medal hunting at Dansville. Napoleon finished third (157) and Concord placed 14th (28) in the team competition. Nate Fritz of Concord was sixth at 106 pounds; Aiden Bocanegra placed second at 113 pounds for Napoleon; Brendan Yob of Napoleon was also second at 120 pounds; Logan Hartman of Napoleon placed fourth at 132 pounds; Collin Thompson of Concord placed fifth at 138; Napoleon wrestler Mason Roth finished third at 157; Zack Bamm of Napoleon was fifth at 165 pounds; Brady Warner was Napoleon finished third for Napoleon at 175; Bart Laretz of Napoleon was second at 190 pounds; Dallas Smith of Napoleon finished third at 215 pounds; and Aiden Nugent was fourth at 285 pounds.
East Jackson at Clare Invitational: The Trojans lost a pair of matches posted on trackwrestling.com. Colton Raffensburger earned a pair of pins against Clare and Bullock Creek for East Jackson.
Grass Lake, Hanover-Horton at Dexter Team Tournament: Both Grass Lake and Hanover-Horton lost matches to Three Rivers. David Fielder (126) and Josh Frailey (150) earned victories in a 70-6 loss to Three Rivers. Grass Lake lost to TRHS 81-0.
Jackson at Grand Ledge: The Vikings finished 3-2 on the day with wins over Haslett (71-6), Eaton Rapids (36-34), and Marshall (42-40). Jadion Range won the Marshall match with a pin at 157 pounds. Antonio Williams sealed the win over Eaton Rapids with a 7-6 decision at 150 pounds.
Michigan Center at Chelsea Invitational: The Cardinals went 1-4 on the day with a win against U of D Jesuit. Andrew Beadonkopf (157) and Chase Short (175) were 4-1 on the day and George Masters (138) was 3-1 for the Cardinals.
Northwest at Rockford Team Tournament: The Mounties finished third at the Rockford Team Tournament by knocking off a pair of top 10 Division 2 schools. Northwest defeated T.K. Middleville (D-2 No. 7 ranked) 45-21, Stevensville Lakeshore (D-2 No. 8 ranked) 49-22, Holt (D-1 No. 8 ranked) 51-21, Forest Hills Northern (51-24), but lost to Division 1 No. 7 ranked Rockford 47-25 in the final match.
Competitive Cheer
Concord, East Jackson at Hillsdale Invitational: Concord High School finished second with 637 and East Jackson placed 11th (523).
Northwest Invitational: The Mounties finished fourth (579) in the Divisions 1/2 competition. Michigan Center was third in the Division 4 competition (680), Lumen Christi finished fifth (595), and Napoleon placed sixth (593).
Girls Bowling
Napoleon 29, Vandercook Lake 1: Sam Burgess bowled a 218 game, Natasha Eastridge shot 214, and Sydney Gallagher finished with a 190 game for Napoleon. Alyssa Jones finished with a personal-high 149 for the Jayhawks.
East Jackson 27, Vandercook Lake 3: Brianna Langley had a high game of 226 for Vandercook Lake.
Hanover-Horton 21, Napoleon 9: Sam Burgess rolled a 214 game against the Comets. Halle Curtis rolled a 372 series for the Comets.
Boys Bowling
Napoleon 29, Vandercook Lake 1: Dustin Moeckel finished with a 460 series and Logan Schneider rolled a 204 game for the Pirates. Kyle Trajnowski scored a personal high game of 142 for Vandercook Lake.
East Jackson 28, Vandercook Lake 2: Christian Lee finished with a 141 for the Jayhawks.
Napoleon 27, Hanover-Horton 3: Logan Schneider finished with a 403 series, Ethan Rose rolled a 214 game, and Dustin Moeckel finished with a 213 game for the Pirates. Joe Davis bowled a 214 for the Comets.
Hockey
Jackson United 6, Temperance Bedford 1: Jackson United pelted TB with 50 shots in the contest. Six different players scored goals for JU as Aiden Chappell, Peyton Paquin, Brennan Forward, Carson Lacinski, Easton Neitzke, and Maddox Grimes rang the bell for JU. Nick Nau stopped 12 shots in earning the win in goal for Jackson United.
Sault Ste. Marie 3, Lumen Christi 2 (OT): The Titans lost in the second round of the tournament at SSM after tying the game in the last 10 seconds of the contest.
Swimming
Jackson Quad Meet: Jackson High School scored 196, Ypsilanti Lincoln tallied 147, and Sturgis finished with 108 at JHS. Blake Hetherington was first in the 100-yard freestyle (49.54) and second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11); Steven Devaughn won the 200-yard IM (2:13) and second in the 100-yard freestyle (52.5); and Logan McKinney won the 500-yard freestyle (5:26) and was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56) for the Vikings. Ty Northrup won the diving (197.15), and Logan Koszegi won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11) for Jackson.
