Boys Basketball

Napoleon 44, Grass Lake 25: DeVonta Habern finished with 21 points to lead Napoleon to the Cascades Conference win. Brayden Lape scored 15 points and Jacob Collins added eight points and eight rebounds for Grass Lake. 

Jackson Christian 33, Pittsford 29: Isaac Lanham scored 11 points leading JCHS to the home win Saturday night. 

Girls Basketball

Springport 50, Colon 40: The Spartans defeated previously undefeated Colon at Spring Arbor University Saturday night. Springport outscored Colon 13-6 in the final quarter to pull away. “We got into foul trouble … but my entire team stepped up and played well,” SHS Coach Rick Saldana said. Maddux Locke scored 14 points, pulled down nine rebounds, dished five assists, and created four steals to lead Springport. Chloey Speer added 12 points, Rylee Siefert scored eight points and hauled in 15 rebounds, and Brenna Crittenden finished with six points and four steals for the Spartans. 

Lumen Christi 33, St. Catherine 20: Codi Ruge scored 10 points and Allison O’Dowd added eight points for LCCHS. 

Wrestling

Columbia Central at Clio Invitational: Columbia Central finished fifth at the team invitational with a 1-4 record. The Golden Eagles defeated the host school 45-30 in the fourth round. 

Grass Lake Invitational: Jackson High School finished fourth (133 points), Grass Lake was 11th (65), Hanover-Horton finished 13th (53), and Concord placed 14th (40). Top six placers in each weight class included Aiden Johnson and Cooper Riddle of Grass Lake who were fourth and fifth place respectively; Brandon Rhode of Grass Lake finished third at 120 pounds; David Fielder of Hanover-Horton won the championship at 126 pounds; A.J. Fielder of Hanover-Horton finished second at 132 pounds; Collin Thompson of Concord won the title at 138 pounds and Jackson wrestlers Zander Resor and Caden Bayer were second and fourth respectively in the same weight class; Kenyon Dunklin of Jackson finished fourth at 144; Antonio Williams of Jackson placed fifth at 150 pounds; Shea Haehnle of Jackson was third at 175 pounds; Jack Reid of Grass Lake was runner-up at 190 pounds; Reece Deshazor of Jackson was fourth at 215 pounds; and Curtis Winters of Jackson was second at 285 pounds. 

Leslie Invitational: Napoleon High School finished fifth (131 points), Springport was 12th (93), and East Jackson placed 16th (40) at the Todd Stern Blackhawk Invitational at Leslie. Top six placers included Jacob Potter of Springport at 106 pounds; Logan Hartman of Napoleon took the championship at 120 pounds; Rylinn Hale of Springport was fifth at 144 pounds; Kaden Sizemore of Springport placed fourth at 150; Caleb Wendt of Springport was third and Clayton Clark of East Jackson fourth at 157 pounds; Mason Roth of Napoleon was second at 165 pounds; Brendan Barrett of Springport placed sixth at 175 pounds; Brady Warner of Napoleon finished second at 190 pounds; and Dallas Smith of Napoleon was second and Eli Worth of Springport was sixth at 285 pounds. 

Holt Girls Invitational: Yazlyn Fajardo of Northwest finished fifth in the 107-116 weight class; Drew Swihart of Hanover-Horton was runner-up in the 125-137 weight class; Sienna Tovar of Jackson won the championship at the 145-155 weight class; Aiyana Walker of Jackson was second, Adriana Berry of Lumen Christi was third, and Selena Garcia of Hanover-Horton placed fifth in the 159-170 weight class; and Kaylee Bonner of Jackson finished second in the 189-231 weight class. 

Portage Invitational: Top six finishers for Lumen Christi included Anthony Morin Castro with a sixth-place finish at 106 pounds; Nolan Curtis was fifth at 126 pounds; Joseph Mietelka finished sixth at 144 pounds; and James Hart placed fourth at 165 pounds. 

Northwest at Saline Duels: Northwest High School finished 3-2 on the day with victories over Belleville (66-10), Saline (60-18), and Woodhaven (47-27). The Mounties fell to Romeo (42-26) and Brighton (45-27). 

Western at Battle Creek Invitational: Western High School finished ninth scoring 108 points. Top six finishers for Western included Quinn Ferris who placed sixth at 138 pounds; Owen St. Andre was sixth at 144 pounds; Titan Parker finished fifth at 157 pounds; Adam Carlson was fifth at 165 pounds; Alex Trudell placed second at 190 pounds; and Ron London finished fourth at 285 pounds. 

Michigan Center at Crestwood Team Tournament: The Cardinals went 2-3 on the day with wins over Erie Mason (48-18) and Notre Dame Prep (25-21). Andrew Beadonkopf went 5-0 on the day at 165 pounds, and Carter Mikolajczyk, Blake Short, and Davion King went 4-1. 

Competitive Cheer

Michigan Center Cardinal Invitational: Michigan Center finished second in Division 4 in an invitational that included more than half of the top 10 ranked teams in the state. Michigan Center finished second to Hudson 758-729. Hanover-Horton finished third (722), Concord was 12th (564), and Lumen Christi finished 15th (539). Columbia Central finished fourth in the D-3 competition scoring 626 and Northwest placed second in the D-2 event scoring 620. 

Holt Invitational: Springport High School finished second (543) and Napoleon third (503) in the Division 4 competition at Holt. 

Bowling

Mel Wolf Invitational: Northwest High School finished sixth during qualifying and advanced to the stepladder portion of the tournament. The Mounties rolled 2,730 for two regular and eight Baker games. Grass Lake was 15th (2,317), Michigan Center finished 18th (2,247), Lumen Christi was 20th (2,231), Western placed 22nd (2,172), Hanover-Horton was right behind the Panthers (2,148), East Jackson finished 25th (1,953), and Vandercook Lake was 26th (1,434). New Boston Huron defeated Coldwater to take the title. 

Hockey

Lumen Christi 4, Kalamazoo Eagles 1: The Titans finished the home-and-home series with Kalamazoo with a sweep Saturday night. Brodie Gregory, Luke Sexton, Jake King, and Isaiah Dinverno scored for LCCHS.

Spring Arbor at Crossroads League: The Cougars completed the sweep at the Crossroads League Meet No. 3 in Indianapolis. The women’s team finished with a total of 6.492 pins winning by 78 and the men’s team won by 25 pins after scoring 6,869. 

Men’s Basketball

Spring Arbor 81, Mount Vernon 65: Gabe Newhof scored 24 points, Kevyn Robertson finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Travis Grayson added 15 points and seven assists for Spring Arbor. 

Women’s Basketball

Spring Arbor 73, Mount Vernon 56: The Cougars made it six in a row with the home win Saturday. 

Track and Field

Spring Arbor at Jet’s Pizza Invitational: Isaiah Romeyn won the 400-meter dash for Spring Arbor with a time of 48.89 seconds and teammate Camden Khon won the mile in 4:14 at Saginaw Valley State University. Romeyn, Khon, Jacob Singleton, and Caden Kyser won the 4,000-meter relay in 10:01. Allison Teed of Spring Arbor placed third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.5 seconds).
