Boys Basketball

Jackson 60, Oak Park 53: Jackson improved to 8-1 on the season with the victory at the Mike Turner Classic at Albion College. Darrion Weller scored 23 points and Koronnis Davis added 13 points for JHS.

Gull Lake 54, Concord 48: The Yellow Jackets lost in a non-conference contest at the Mike Turner Classic at Albion College. Concord is now 6-4 overall on the season. 

Lumen Christi 53, Northwest 33: The Titans improve to 6-1 on the season while Northwest is 3-6. Lundon Hampton scored 19 points, Kasen Burgess added 12 points, and Luke Tropea finished with 11 points for the Titans. 

Wrestling

Columbia Central at Imlay City: Christian Millican finished third at 113 pounds; Hunter Czubachowski placed sixth at 144 pounds; and Dylan Boone finished second at 285 pounds for CCHS. 

Concord at St. Louis Invitational: Nate Fritz was fifth at 120 pounds; Ethan Cesco finished fourth at 126; Collin Thompson placed second at 144 pounds; and Alex Winters finished fifth at 215 for Concord. 

East Jackson at Fruitport Invitational: Clayton Clark of East Jackson won the title at 157 pounds for EJHS.

Grass Lake at Durand Invitational: Jack Reid won the championship at 190 pounds improving to 21-0 on the season for Grass Lake. Aiden Johnson finished fourth at 106 pounds for the Warriors. 

Jackson, Michigan Center at Homer: Jackson High School finished 2-3 on the day with wins over Michigan Center (48-30) and Galesburg-Augusta (72-6). Against MCHS, Jackson earned pins by Caden Bayer at 144 pounds, Andrew Anderson at 150 pounds, Malik Sharlow at 190 pounds, and Curtis Winters at 285. Michigan Center earned pins by Davion King (175), Chase Short (215), Carter Mikolajczyk (126), Ashton Bristow (132), and Degen Roebuck (157) against the Vikings. 

Napoleon at Bedford Invitational: Joey Donahee was sixth at 144 pounds; Marcello Flores finished fifth at 150 pounds; Carson Warner placed fourth at 157; Rylan Lovett was third at 165; Brady Warner was runner-up at 190 pounds; Dallas Smith earned sixth place at 215 pounds; Jamarcus Goodloe took fifth place at 285 pounds; Logan Hartman finished fourth at 120; and Brayden Maher placed sixth at 138 pounds for the Pirates. Napoleon finished sixth overall with 90 points. 

Northwest at Eaton Rapids Team Tournament: Northwest finished the day with a 4-1 record defeating Eaton Rapids, Howell, Leslie, and Zeeland West. The Mounties lost to Gaylord 33-31 in the final bout of the match. Jeffrey Miller (144) and Aidyn Williams (215) earned pins in the championship match against Gaylord. 

Competitive Cheer

Concord at Leslie Invitational: Concord High School finished fifth with a three-round total of 499. 

Michigan Center, Northwest at Allen Park Invitational: Michigan Center High School finished fourth in the Divisions 3/4 competition with a three round total of 702. Northwest was seventh in the Division 2 competition scoring 603. 

Springport at Maple Valley Invitational: The Spartans finished third in the Division 4 competition with 528. 

Hockey

Kalamazoo Eagles 4, Jackson United 3: Kalamazoo scored with less than 10 seconds remaining in the contest to pull out the win. Hayden Haynes scored two goals and Aiden Chappell scored the other for JU.

Lumen Christi 3, GRCC 2: Brody Gregory, Isaac Rehberg, and Jake King scored goals for the Titans. The Titans are now 8-1-1 while Grand Rapids falls to 11-3 overall. 

Gymnastics

JAG at Rockford Invitational: Jackson Area Gymnastics finished fourth with 135.50 at Rockford – one of the bigger invitationals of the season. Addi Richmond won the floor (9.35), the all-around (35.7), and was second on the vault (9.0) and beam (8.85). Melody Placeway won the bars (8.6), Kaitlyn Rumsey was sixth on the floor (8.85), and Ally Thrun was seventh on the floor (8.825). 

College Athletic Events

Women’s Basketball

Mid Michigan 68, Jackson College 66: Jackson College jumped out to a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Mid Michigan battled back for the next three quarters. Jackson had a chance to hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but the shot would not fall. JC was led by Olivia McDavid who scored 17 points and Kaylona Butler and Zoie Bamm each scored 16 points. The Jets are now 11-2 overall and break a six-game winning streak in the process. JC will travel to Glen Oaks Community College for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. 

Spring Arbor 80, Taylor 72: The Cougars pulled out the win with outscoring Taylor 21-13 in the fourth quarter. Alize Tripp scored 28 points, Alana Nelson added 15 points, and Alex Long scored 12 points for SAU. The Cougars are now 12-3 overall for the season. 

Men’s Basketball

Jackson College 87, Mid Michigan 76: Jackson College improved to 8-5 with the home win Saturday. Savonn Campbell led the Jets with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Antonio King scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Xavier Ford-Belton added 15 points, and Kamerin Carter finished with 12 points for the Jets. JC will travel to Glen Oaks Community College for a 7:30 tipoff Wednesday.

Taylor 72, Spring Arbor 57: The Cougars were limited to 20 points in the first half against Taylor. Travis Grayson scored 22 points and Gabe Newhof added 20 points for SAU (9-6). 

Bowling

Ancilla Invitational: Both teams from Jackson College earned titles during the invitational in Plymouth, Ind. The Jets bowled on the PBA Chameleon pattern in the nine-team event. Trey Richmond led the individual competition for JC with a 602 and the other four competitors were within 40 pins of him. Parker Horvath rolled a 579 series, Charlie Teller finished with 567, Charles Porter was one pin behind him, and Logan Schneider finished with a 564. Erin VandenBrink finished with a 534 series to lead the Jets. Kaelin Pond rolled a 476 series, Olivia Hurd bowled 464, and Shailynn Walker rolled a 459 series. Jackson College rolled the highest Baker game – five players bowling two frames each for one team score – with a 203.
