Napoleon sweeps CCHS in Sunday baseball
Napoleon High School swept a rare Sunday doubleheader at Columbia Central, 3-2 and 6-4.
Kyler Reason earned the win in relief in the eighth inning and also had two hits at the plate. Hartley Marvin pitched seven innings for Napoleon, striking out five batters on the mound. Blake Hoskins had two of the Golden Eagles’ four hits of the game. Napoleon won game two 6-4 as Bubba Crites pitched a complete game for the Pirates. Rocco Cross had two hits and knocked in two runs for Napoleon. Jason Negus also recorded two hits for the Pirates in the win.
Columbia Central was led by Ethan Stewart and Nick Wilding with two hits apiece.
The two games were rescheduled when Napoleon had to complete Cascades conference play on Thursday instead of playing against their rivals.
Softball
Grass Lake 6, Hemlock 5: The Warriors only registered three hits in the game, but scored six times for the comeback win on Saturday at Coleman. Olivia Turner, Layne Terry, and Emily Guthrie each had hits in the game for Grass Lake.
Grass Lake 11, Coleman 1: Laney Brown earned the pitching win for Grass Lake allowing only one hit and striking out six batters. Rylee Fitzpatrick, Katelyn Postuma, Emily Brown, Olivia Turner, and Emily Guthrie all had multiple hits for Grass Lake (21-3-1).
Tennis
DeWitt Quad: Western High School finished 3-0 on Saturday with wins over St. Johns, 6-2, Lansing Catholic Central, 7-1, and DeWitt, 8-0. Going 3-0 on the day were Renee Marston at No. 2 singles; Mena Smarch at No. 4 singles; Kenzie Hiler/Maria Macchia at No. 1 doubles; Emma Reed/Bella Brushaber at No. 2 doubles; Alena Engle/Teagan Robertson at No. 3 doubles; and Gabi Davis/Dru Porter at No. 4 doubles.
