Division 7 Regional Final
Lumen Christi 35, Detroit Loyola 18: It didn’t take Lumen Christi Catholic High School to know they were in a dog fight in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 7 at home Saturday against Detroit Loyola. The Bulldogs scored 13 seconds into the game on a long pass to take a quick 6-0 lead. But the Titans’ offense pounded the ball and its defense came up with turnovers on a cold and windy day at home to advance to the Division 7 semifinals next week. Collin Morrow, Cole Simpson, and Derrick Walker scored touchdowns for LCCHS, taking a 21-18 lead into halftime. The Titans held Detroit scoreless in the second half. Ralph Golden and Simpson scored touchdowns in the second half for Lumen Christi. Walker finished with 120 rushing yards for the Titans. Defensively, Chunky Willis intercepted a pass on a botched punt attempt by Detroit Loyola and finished with six tackles. Conor Smith and Collin Morrow also finished with six tackles apiece for Lumen Christi (11-1). Anthony Garrett threw for 226 yards for Detroit Loyola. Lumen Christi will face 12-0 Lawton in the semifinal game next week at a yet-to-be-determined location and time.
