Priya Mericle of East Jackson was 86th (21:42) and Caitlin Wright of Concord placed 193rd (24:00). The top 30 earn all-state honors and a state medal.

Division 3 girls: Lumen Christi Catholic High School finished fifth as a team with 208 points. Hart won its fifth consecutive state title with 143 points. Faith Smith (18:37) and Madison Osterberg (18:52) finished in the top 30 to earn all-state honors. Smith was fifth and Osterberg was 12th at Michigan International Speedway on a cool, but dry day. Smith earned all-state honors for the third consecutive season. “I wasn’t sure how I would finish this year after being injured,” Smith said “It turned out pretty good.” Osterberg earned all-state honors for the second consecutive season giving the sophomore a chance to be a four-time all-state performer in cross country at Lumen Christi. “The conditions were pretty good,” Osterberg said. “It is special to be a two-time all-state cross country runner at Lumen Christi.” LCCHS freshman Layla Lopez was 52nd (20:08), Gabrielle Osterberg placed 79th (20:37), and Alexandra Soltis finished 141st (21:32). Sophia Reynolds of Hanover-Horton was 61st (20:18), Ava Viegelahn of Grass Lake finished 77th (20:35), and Hope Wilkes of Columbia Central was right behind her (20:36) for 78th place.

Division 4 boys: Concord High School battled with Hillsdale Academy all season long. The Yellow Jackets defeated Hillsdale in the regional, but lost to the Colts in the MHSAA Division 4 finals on Saturday. Concord earned a trophy for finishing second as a team at the state meet, 154-184. Jonathan Mikovits finished as a runner-up individually with a time of 16:14. He is a four-time all-state runner. “I just went out there and tried to stay as close to the first-place runner,” Mikovits said. “We were looking to win today, but you can’t argue with a second-place finish.” Joe Bulko earned all-state honors for a second consecutive year by finishing 19th (17:03). “It (the course) was a huge improvement over last year,” Bulko said. “We had beat Hillsdale Academy at regionals but it didn’t work out today.” Junior Adair Artis was 22nd overall (17:05) to earn all-state honors for the first time. “It was hard to start, but the ending was pretty good,” Artis said of his race today. Artis ran for the Yellow Jackets last year, but did not run in the state meet in 2020. Isaac Waldron finished 75th (18:04) and Nolan Korman was 158th (19:13) for Concord. Concord finished third as a team in 2020. Longtime Coach David Jordon was happy with the finish on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. “We ran good, but were beaten by a team that ran better,” Jordon said. “Today was their day.” Michael Allen of East Jackson placed 100th (18:23) in Saturday’s Division 4 state meet.

Division 3 boys: Hanover-Horton finished 16th as a team with 373 points. Roger Melling earned all-state honors for the second consecutive year with a seventh-place finish in 16:14. “I did not feel well in the beginning, but I brought it back once I got back on the track,” Melling said. “I think next year I should be in place to be in the top five for sure.” For Hanover-Horton, Austin Brown was 59th (17:20), Evan Shepherd placed 68th (17:22), Landon Boulis finished 183rd (18:42), and Ben Childs was 209th (19:07). Division 2 girls: Alyna Lewis of Western High School finished 23rd with a time of 19:13 to earn all-state honors. Lewis missed the state finals in 2020 due to COVID-19. “It feels good to finish my cross country career by earning all-state honors,” Lewis said. “The conditions were really good today, but this is always a tough course.”

Division 1 girls: Olivia Perrine of Jackson High School finished 64th in 19:12. Perrine is only a sophomore at JHS.
