Boys Basketball
Jackson 54, Western 50: The Vikings went on a 12-2 run to start the second half but Western hung tough clawing back to within two points with 16 seconds remaining. Koronnis Davis made two key free throws with 13.6 seconds left for Jackson. Davis finished with 16 points and Darrion Weller scored 17 points for the Vikings. Maverick Hammond led all scorers with 21 points and Ben Parrott added 11 points for Western.
Napoleon 50, Stockbridge 43: The Pirates earned a home win to start the 2023-2024 season. Holden Van Poppel scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and Gavrik Belcourt added 11 points for Napoleon. Kegan Collins tallied 14 points for Stockbridge.

Vandercook Lake 69, Jackson Prep 32: Hunter Fletcher scored 24 points and freshman Jonathan Morgan added 22 points for the Jayhawks. Ja’reem Love-Weller dished 13 assists for VCL.
Boys Bowling
Napoleon 23, Columbia Central 7: The Pirates rolled Baker games of 199 and 272 to jump out to a 10-0 lead in the contest at JAX 60. Ethan Rose rolled a 395 series and Payton Thorne added a 390 series for Napoleon. Logan Cripps finished with a 363 series for the Golden Eagles.
Vandercook Lake 22, Leslie 8: The Jayhawks opened the season with a home victory at JAX 60 over new Cascades Conference foes Leslie. Xavier Petty finished with a high game of 198 and Matthew Melville rolled a 287 series to lead the Jayhawks.
Girls Bowling
Columbia Central 29, Napoleon 1: Alexis Henry finished with a 171 game and Amber Johnson rolled a 162 game for CCHS. Napoleon was led by Sydney Gallagher with a 158 game at JAX 60.

Women’s Soccer
Spring Arbor University 2, Bethel (Tenn) 1 (OT): The Cougars advanced to the NAIA Women’s National Tournament Elite Eight with the victory in Alabama. Isa Martinez and Jocelyn Hendricks scored for SAU in the win. Blair Currie earned the win in goal for SAU (20-0-2). Spring Arbor will play in the quarterfinals Thursday at 5 p.m. against unranked Life University (GA).
Awards
Tristen Cawthon of Jackson High School was named all-state in Division 2 by members of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. Cawthon finished with 28 tackles, 22 assists, seven tackles for losses, 10 sacks, and one forced fumble as a defensive lineman for the Vikings this season.
