Marshall 3, Western 1: The Panthers won the first set, but lost three consecutive to the Redhawks. Western is now 24-6 overall, 4-1 in the Interstate-8 Conference.
Hastings 3, Northwest 1: The Mounties won game one but lost the next three sets on the road Tuesday.
Boys Soccer Districts
Division 2 at Western
Northwest 1, Tecumseh 0: Drake Tillman scored the only goal of the game for NWHS on a free kick. Lucas Rattell earned the save in goal for Northwest in the home district tournament game win. The Mounties advance to the district semifinal Tuesday against Mason at 5 p.m. at Western High School.
Division 3 District at Stockbridge
Michigan Center 2, Stockbridge 0: The Cardinals won 2-0 on the road in the first round of the Division 3 district tournament. Spencer Berkeypile scored both of the goals for MCHS. Hunter Clemons and Jordan Withers combined for the shutout. The Cardinals will face Grass Lake in the semifinal round at 5 p.m., Oct. 18, at Stockbridge High School. The winner advances to the district final Oct. 20.
Division 4 at Lumen Christi
Clinton 5, Lumen Christi 2: The Redwolves advance to the district semifinal against the winner of Manchester/Lenawee Christian next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Lumen Christi. The Titans finish the season with a 1-14-1 record.
Girls Golf Regionals
Division 2 at Mason: Western High School finished sixth at Eldorado Golf Course with a four-person score of 382 and Northwest was ninth scoring 466. Camryn Boldt of Western finished one spot out of becoming a state qualifier with a personal-best 85 and Gabi Davis finished with a 90. Melia Piloske of Northwest shot a 107 and Avery White of Jackson carded a 99 to lead their respective teams.
Boys Tennis Regional
Division 2 at Dexter: Jackson High School finished with three points after opening round wins at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 doubles. Ben Nichols/Joey Ortiz won at No. 2 doubles for Jackson; Rowan Alger/Theodore Skyes won a match at No. 3 doubles; and Shritan Pisupati/Christopher Day claimed a quarterfinal match at No. 4 doubles for the Vikings. Jackson finished fifth at the regional event.
Division 3 at Chelsea: Western High School scored 11 points to advance to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state finals Oct. 20, 21. Northwest won seven of its first eight matches but lost in the next round. The Mounties finished with seven points at the regional. Aidan Carter/Jack Spooner won the title at No. 4 doubles for Western with a 7-5, 6-1 win in the final. Jaxon Porter finished second at No. 2 singles; Derek Olivas of Western was also runner-up at No. 4 singles; and Hudson Valentine/Josh Veneziano also earned second place at No. 1 doubles. The Panthers advance to the D-3 state final Oct. 20, 21, at Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Division 4 at Ann Arbor Greenhills: Lumen Christi Catholic High School finished fourth in the regional with nine points and Columbia Central scored one point on a win by Noah Moore at No. 2 singles. Luke Tropea finished runner-up for the regional title at No. 2 singles.
College Sporting Events
Women’s Soccer
Delta College 8, Jackson College 0: The Jets are 10-7-1 overall following the road loss at Delta College. JC is 7-5-1 in Michigan Community College Athletic Association play. Jackson will attempt to get back on the winning track with a home match Saturday at 1 p.m. against St. Clair County Community College. JC defeated SCCCC earlier in the season for a road win.
Spring Arbor College 0, Marian 0: The Cougars tied Marian on the road in a battle of top 10 teams in the national rankings. Spring Arbor University outshot Marian 7-4 in the contest. Blair Currie earned the shutout in goal for SAU (11-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 league).
Men’s Soccer

Marian 3, Spring Arbor College 2: Matheus Cunha and Rood Schnaider scored goals for the Cougars in the home loss. SAU outshot Marian in the contest 8-5. Spring Arbor is now 8-3-3 overall, 3-2 in Crossroads League play.
Women’s Volleyball

Mott Community College 3, Jackson College 0: The Jets lost for the second time this season to Mott, this time at home 25-20, 25-18, and 25-16. Jackson College is 10-5 overall, 4-4 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. Kate Gorney led JC with nine kills, Jaden Bates finished with six kills, Kenadee Tompkins dished 23 assists, and Allie Jarchow finished with six kills. The Jets will host Oakland Community College next Monday at 7 p.m.
Mount Vernon 3, Spring Arbor College 0: Frances Churchwell finished with 11 digs for Spring Arbor University (13-12 overall, 6-6 league).
