Extra Points from Friday Night

Manchester High School running back Wyatt Carson had a solid night for the Flying Dutchmen in the 36-19 loss to Grass Lake. Carson finished with 139 rushing yards and two scores for Manchester. Bubba Duffing did it for Manchester on the defensive side of the football with 9.5 tackles in the Cascades Conference game. 

Ty Keeler of Western High School continues to impress with 147 passing yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ 16-0 win. Landon Heavy finished with five tackles and a fumble recovery for Western. 

Tristan Johnson of Hanover-Horton High School ran for 100 yards in the Comets loss to Jonesville. 

Cody Richardson and Ty Farmer continue to be solid players for Columbia Central High School. Richardson hit Farmer with a 46-yard touchdown pass on Friday night. Farmer finished with 20 tackles on the defensive side of the football for CCHS. 

Volleyball

Dansville Invitational: Napoleon High School went 3-1 on the day, defeating Leslie, Dansville and Eaton Rapids but losing to Alma. Momo Hampton dished 79 assists and Alyssa Budd tallied 37 kills earning all-tournament honors. Keegan Schoendorf finished with 64 digs for Napoleon. 

Boys cross country

Chris Jensen 5K Run: Rogan Melling of Hanover-Horton High School won the 5K event in 16 minutes, 29.13 seconds at Ella Sharp Park. Teammate Austin Brown was second (16:41), Cooper Singleton of Western was third (16:53), Adair Artis of Concord placed fourth (16:55), and Isaiah Dinverno of Lumen Christi placed fifth (16:58). 

Girls cross country

Chris Jensen 5K Run: Lumen Christi Catholic High School dominated the event with three of the top four times in the 5K race at Ella Sharp Park. Madison Osterberg won the event in 18:35, Macy Fazekas was second in 19:57, and Gabrielle Osterberg was fourth in 20:50. Chloe Khon of Northwest finished third (20:02) and Hope Wilkes of Columbia Central was fifth (20:58). 

Girls golf

Division 4 state finals: Lumen Christi Catholic High School won its sixth state title in girls golf by finishing with a two-day total of 688 to defeat Lenawee Christian by 23 strokes at The Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Anna McClure finished sixth overall with 163 and Ashley Hilderley tied for ninth scoring 167. Alexa Spencer shot 170 and Michaela Hauer finished with 188. Columbia Central finished seventh as a team with 767. Sophomore Logan Bentley finished second overall at 150, Iliana Fowle shot 202, Marrisa Berro shot 209, and Kelsey Fausz shot 212. Napoleon freshman Anna McCubbins finished just outside of the top 10 at 168. The top 10 golfers receive medals and all-state considerations. 

Division 2 state finals: Natalie Kulka of Jackson High School finished seventh overall with 162 at Forest Akers West Golf Course in the Division 2 finals. She earned a medal for a pair of 81s on the weekend. 

Boys tennis

Division 4 state finals at Kalamazoo: Daniel Pero of Columbia Central High School fell to the No. 1 seed in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state finals at No. 1 singles. Pero lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. It is the second consecutive year the CCHS player has lost in the semifinal round. 

Division 3 state finals at Mason/East Lansing: Western High School finished tied for ninth in the state with nine points at the MHSAA Division 3 finals in the Lansing area. Ryan Perkins won a match at No. 2 singles; Noah McCollum won a singles match at No. 3; Caleb Bahlau won one match at No. 4 singles; Micah Hall/Jesse Pratt won a match at No. 1 doubles; Nick Hendrickson/Jaxon Porter won a match at No. 2 doubles; and Connor Ganzel/Joshua Veneziano won a match at No. 4 doubles.
