Western 3, Hastings 0: The Panthers improved to 21-4 overall, 4-0 in the Interstate-8 Conference with the victory. Abby Nieswender finished with 27 assists and four aces for Western. Bayli Stewart and Izzy Schlundt each recorded seven kills and Kayda Herrick finished with 10 kills and 16 digs for Western.
Boys Soccer
Jackson Christian 3, Michigan Center 0: The game was scoreless at halftime at Jackson Christian High School. J.D. Locke scored his 24th and 25th goals of the season and Drew Barney added a goal and two assists – setting a JCHS assist record in the process with 27 assists so far this season. Jordan Withers stopped nine shots for the Cardinals in the first half.
Tecumseh 2, Northwest 1: Teagen Hudgins chipped in a corner kick for the Mounties in the non-conference road contest. The two teams will meet in the opening round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association district tournament.
Columbia Central 1, Jackson 1: The two Jackson County soccer teams tied in a non-conference matchup at Mehall Field Wednesday.
Girls Golf
Jackson at Ann Arbor Huron: Jackson High School finished fifth in the SEC White Division with 526 for 18 holes. Avery White led Jackson with a 103 – good for 10th place at the league meet.
Boys Tennis
Western 4, Haslett 4: Noah McCollum and Derek Olivas earned wins for the Panthers at Nos. 3 and 4 singles in the non-conference match.
Independent Tennis League: Columbia Central High School finished second in the league final at home Wednesday. Lansing Christian won the event with 17 points, CCHS was second scoring 16, and Hillsdale third with 14 points. Trenton Ruttkofsky/Caden Alexander won the league title at No. 2 doubles; Nolan Denney/Tucker Hills won No. 3 doubles; and Hunter Herzberg/Evan DeOss won the championship at No. 4 doubles for CCHS.
College Sports Activities
Volleyball
Spring Arbor University 3, Taylor University 1: The Cougars won 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, and 25-9. Kendall Bollenbacher finished with 13 kills, Hayden Fortress dished 23 assists, Frances Churchwell and Bollenbacher combined for 40 digs for SAU (12-10 overall, 6-5 CL).
Jackson College 3, Henry Ford College 0: The Jets earned a road win in the MCCAA 25-16, 25-19, and 25-20. Allie Jarchow led the Jets with 12 kills, Kenadee Tompkins dished 29 assists, Alivia Smith finished with 13 digs, and Brynn Harmon added nine kills and a block for the Jets. Jackson College is 7-4 overall, 4-3 in MCCAA play with the victory. JC travels to Port Huron for the Skipper Quads Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
Women’s Soccer
Jackson College 4, Grand Rapids Community College 3: Franny Parks scored a hat trick for the Jets and Jessa Davis added another for the win. Katie Gasper finished with five saves in net for JC earning the win. Jackson College is now 10-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the MCCAA. The Jets will host Schoolcraft Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff to the match.
Men’s Soccer
Grand Rapids 4, Jackson College 3: Emmanuel Ndjoli scored twice for the Jets and Nikolas Comet scored the other goal in the road conference match. The Jets scored all three goals in the second half of the contest. Antonia Rodriguez stopped 10 shots in the loss for Jackson College (4-5-1 overall). Jackson hosts Schoolcraft Saturday in a contest scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
Men’s Golf
Glen Oaks Community College Invitational: The Jets finished with a four-man total of 369 at Island Hills Golf Club. Jackson College was led by Michael Klintworth with an 85, Isaac Anuszkiewicz shot an 87, Nolen Novak carded a 98, and Grant Davis finished with a 99 for Jackson College. This concluded the Jets’ scheduled invitationals for the fall season.
