Volleyball

Michigan Center 3, Columbia Central 1: The Cardinals scored a 26-24 win on game four to pull out the match. Sam Wynn finished with 16 kills and 21 digs, Kaylee Johnson had three aces at the service line, and Lauren Vanvalkenburg tallied 14 digs for the Cardinals. Rylie Aylesworth scored five blocks and five kills for CCHS. Kenzie Duncan finished with 32 digs and Alison Richardson scored 10 kills and 15 assists for the Golden Eagles. 

Concord 3, Quincy 0: The Yellow Jackets rallied from a 23-14 deficit to win game three and sweep the match. 

Grass Lake 3, Jonesville 0: The Warriors earned a Cascades Conference win on the road Tuesday. Hanna Alvarez recorded 23 digs, Mia Buttigieg finished with 28 assists, and Olivia Turner scored 11 kills for the Warriors.

Addison 3, Hanover-Horton 1: The Panthers appear to be one of the teams to beat in the new Cascades Conference with the victory. 

Tekonsha 3, Jackson Christian 2: The Royals lost 15-5 in game five in a very close match. Madi Conrad finished with eight kills and 12 assists and Vivyan Khon added eight kills and four aces for Jackson Christian. 

Napoleon 3, Leslie 0: Maggie Beer finished with 11 kills and nine assists for Napoleon (7-2-1). Audrey Chapman finished with 17 digs and Gracie Tallman created five blocks for the Pirates.

Girls Cross Country

Concord, Springport at Eaton Rapids Invitational: Hailey Stimer of Concord High School won the freshman/sophomore race in 21:18. Riley Adams (23:26) and Gwen Bulko (23:28) placed eighth and ninth respectively for Concord in the junior/senior race. 

Leslie Invitational: Leslie High School swept the top five place, Napoleon finished second (79) and Michigan Center placed seventh (158). Priya Mericle of East Jackson finished eighth (22:09), Lauren McClain of Napoleon placed 13th (22:29), and teammate Makenzy Lindeman was 14th (22:34). 

Northwest, Western at Hastings: Western High School won the Interstate-8 Conference jamboree with 41 points and Northwest finished fifth with 114 points. Chloe Khon of Northwest finished third (20:45), Marina Walz of Western finished fifth (22:03), and teammates Natalie Kuhl (22:32) and Raquel Curey (22:38) placed seventh and eighth respectively for the Panthers. 

Boys Cross Country

Concord, Springport at Eaton Rapids Invitational: Keeton Smith of Concord was 16th in the freshman/sophomore race in 20:00. Lleyton Bauman of Concord finished 18th (19:41) and Eli Dyer was 20th (19:45) in the junior/senior race. 

Leslie Invitational: East Jackson High School finished fourth (103), Napoleon was sixth (139), and Michigan Center placed eighth (188) at the event. Michael Allen of East Jackson won the event in 16:16, teammate Javin Mericle was sixth (17:07), and Kyler Pequet of Napoleon finished ninth (17:33). 

Northwest, Western at Hastings: Western High School finished second (43) and Northwest placed sixth (175) at the Interstate-8 Conference jamboree. Cooper Singleton of Western was third (16:48), teammate Edison Lopeman placed fifth (17:03), and Ryan Good finished sixth (17:08). Hudson Cooper of Northwest was 21st in 19:05.

Harper Creek 2, Northwest 1

Western 6, Pennfield 0: Western High School began Interstate-8 Conference play with a road win. Roarke Watterson scored two goals and dished two assists in the win. Goals were also scored by P.J. Lasky, Sam Heydenburg, Christian Roza, and Barrett Warner.

Boys Tennis

Western 6, Northwest 2: Western High School won three of four singles matches with wins by Jaxon Porter, Noah McCollum, and Derek Olivas at Nos. 2-4 respectively. Drew Maples of Northwest won the No. 1 singles match, in three sets. 

Hillsdale 5, Columbia Central 3: Jason Gonerka won 7-5 and 7-5 for CCHS at No. 3 singles. 

College Sporting Events

Women’s Volleyball

Lake Michigan 3, Jackson College 1: The Jets suffered its first loss of the season in the home match Tuesday.  JC won game three 25-17 but fell 25-23 in game four as Lake Michigan closed out the match. Kate Gorney finished with 15 kills, Alivia Smith tallied 17 digs, and Kenadee Tompkins dished 35 assists for the Jets. 

Women’s Soccer

Kellogg Community College 3, Jackson 1: Abbi Johns scored the only goal for the Jets in the home loss. 

Spring Arbor University 10, Lindsey Wilson 0:  Lauren Marshall scored a hat trick and Shelby Marshall added a pair of goals for Spring Arbor (5-0). The Cougars were off to the races with five goals in the first 19 minutes of action. Reagan Kohler and Blair Currie combined for the shutout in goal for SAU.
