Onsted 69, Michigan Center 56: The Cardinals trailed by as many as 20 points at home on Monday, but pulled within nine points with just under three minutes remaining in the game. The Wildcats featured too much Ayden Davis in the first half as the 6-foot, 9-inch all-state player had 17 points and a dozen rebounds.
“We played behind the post in the second half and sent a double team at him (Davis) … but he is a load,” MCHS Coach Travis Gaddy said. “Our defensive intensity made them (Onsted) play at a frantic pace.”
Michigan Center trailed 21-13 at the end of the first quarter as Nikolas Kosmet scored six points. The Cardinals were down 40-23 at halftime.
Onsted extended the lead to 18 points in the third quarter before MCHS hit four 3-pointers in the final quarter.
Verlandez Williams and Brody Shannon of Michigan Center both scored eight points in the final quarter. Williams finished with 16 points and seven steals in the game. Shannon scored 12 points, Carter Kosmet scored nine points, and Nikolas Kosmet and Daylen Hinkle each scored eight points for the Cardinals.
Davis scored 26 points, pulled down 17 rebounds, and dished six assists for Onsted.
