Volleyball

Columbia Central 3, Grass Lake 2: The Golden Eagles won the fifth set 16-14 to pull out the win. Kenadee Tompkins dished 53 assists, Bailey Surque finished with 37 kills, and Sydnee Miller finished with 28 for digs for CCHS. Catherine Cottle tallied 35 assists for Grass Lake, Olivia Turner finished with 32 digs, Ruby Johnson tallied 12 kills, and Leah Allen scored 15 points from the service line. It is the Warriors’ first loss of the season. 

Chelsea 3, Napoleon 0: Napoleon lost 25-11, 30-28, and 25-20 on the road Thursday. Momo Hampton finished with 18 assists and 13 digs, Alyssa Budd tallied nine kills, and Sam Conaway added five kills for the Pirates (6-5-1 overall). 

Hanover-Horton at Union City: The Comets won two of three matches during a quad meet at Union City. Hanover-Horton lost to the host school, but defeated Bellevue and Maple Valley. Becca Uphaus finished with 25 kills, Lily Wooster tallied 19 kills, and Carly Cure dished out 25 assists for Hanover-Horton. 

Calhoun Christian 3, Jackson Christian 0: The Royals fell 25-23, 25-20, and 25-20 in volleyball on Thursday. Julaina McCombs finished with 10 kills, Liv Conrad made seven kills, and Kyana Herendeen finished with six assists for Jackson Christian. 

Boys’ soccer

Pinckney 2, Jackson 1 

Lumen Christi 3, Hastings 2: Karl Hunt and Jesus Tavera scored goals for the Titans.

Harper Creek 4, Northwest 3: The Mounties fell at home in an Interstate-8 Conference match. 

Western 5, Pennfield 0: Barrett Warner, Sam Miller, Marshal Eva, Tommy Powell, and Wyatt Robinson scored goals for the Panthers. Western is 5-0 on the season with the win. 

Grass Lake 4, Clinton 0: The Warriors won a rematch of the 2020 district final in 2020. Gus Vitale, Wesley Good, Henry Black, and Tyler Chizek all scored goals in the contest. Jack Easterday earned the shutout for Grass Lake (7-2-2). 

Girl’s golf

Cascades Conference at Michigan Center: Michigan Center scored 189 to win its fifth consecutive Cascades jamboree of the year. Grass Lake was second (210), Hanover-Horton placed third (222), Napoleon finished fourth (227), and East Jackson was fifth (238). Kamryn Shannon shot a 1-over-par 37 and teammate Kylie McKee finished with a 47. Addisyn Rudd of East Jackson finished with a 49, and Ereka Risner of Grass Lake, Riley Brown of Michigan Center, and Calli Borreson of Napoleon all shot 50s. 

I-8 at Cascades: Lumen Christi Catholic High School took the lead in the Interstate-8 Conference today by winning their own jamboree at Cascades Golf Course. The Titans shot a 174 led by Ashley Hilderley and Michaela Hauer with 42s. Lumen Christi shot 174, Coldwater finished with 196, and Western shot 200. Sydnie Redovich of Western shot a 45 to lead the Panthers. LCCHS, Coldwater, and Western were tied for the lead heading into the jamboree. 

Boys’ tennis

Columbia Central 5, Tecumseh 3: Daniel Pero, Andrew Hosmer, and Garrett Watkins won singles’ matches for the Golden Eagles. 

Lumen Christi 7, Hillsdale 1  

Western 6, Marshall 2: The Panthers remained undefeated with the Interstate-8 Conference win on Wednesday. 

Northwest 5, Pinckney 3: The Mounties improved to 11-2 on the season with the win. Northwest swept the doubles’ competitions with wins by Landon Schroeder/Karson Schroeder at No. 1 doubles; Alex Thrun/Drew Maples won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles; Lincoln Keathley/Garrett Waldron easily won at No. 3 doubles; and Gavin Rush/Kaleb Kittinger-Munro earned a win at No. 4 doubles.
