Mounties win a pair of softball contests on Sunday

Taking on all competition at any time, the Northwest High School varsity softball team won a pair of games on Sunday.

The Mounties defeated Dakota – north of Detroit – 6-3 and Trenton 10-1. Northwest is now 18-2 on the season.

Against Dakota, the Mounties scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to blow open a close game. Madison Neitzke had two hits and Katelyn Kennedy and Maddison Rowley each had a pair of RBIs. Nevaeh Ingram struck out eight batters on the mound for Northwest. 

Against Trenton, the Mounties recorded 11 hits in the win. Kennedy and Neitzke each recorded two hits and two RBIs. Ingram struck out 10 batters in the victory. 

On the PGA Tour, Brian Stuard moved up 26 spots at the Wells Fargo Championship with a 3-under-par 68 on Sunday. The highlight was an eagle on the 304-yard par 4 14th hole. Stuard earned $36,045 for his 37th-place finish. 

Approximately 300 Consumers Energy customers in the central business district of Downtown Jackson are without power tonight (including JTV). Crews have been dispatched and are investigating the cause. An estimate of restoration time is not available. JTV is off air until power returns.
