(July 18, 2021 7:33 AM) Par took a beating at the Jackson County Open Golf Tournament on Saturday at Cascades Golf Course.
Seventeen golfers shot par or better on the par 72 Summit Township course.
Noah Schneider, Bret Valkuchak, Colin O’Connell and Trevor Raymond all shot 3-under-par 69s in the first round of the major tournament.
Andrew Tindall, Steve Maddalena, and Dave Mickel shot 70s – 2 under par – for the day.
Golfers at 1-under-par are Riley Hestwood, Jack Brockie, Doug Bevan, Sean Vann, Ron O’Rourke, and Tom Butterfield. All six golfers shot 71s on the day.
Cody Lysher, Drew Gandy, Paul Varner, and Scott Denig all shot 72s to open the tournament.
It took a 5-over-par 77 to make the cut in the championship flight.
First flight leaders are Nick Boertman, Brian Carney, and Malon Backinger with 78s.
Second flight leaders are Mike Zuchowski, Luke Girodat, and Colin Norton at 86.
Play continues on today (Sunday) at 8 a.m. The lead group will tee off at 9:52.
