The City of Jackson Engineering Division is beginning work on a large construction project that will impact a busy roadway on the City’s southwest side. Starting Monday, June 3, crews will begin work on Fourth Street, focusing on replacing pavement and realigning intersections in several areas.

Work in these areas will be taking place at the same time, and is all set to wrap up in August. Fourth Street from Audubon Boulevard to the intersection of Stonewall and Horton roads will be milled and repaved. In the middle of that repaving effort is the roundabout at the West Avenue intersection. The roundabout will be re-designed to make the roundabout easier and safer to drive around. The third part of this overall project realigning the intersection of Fourth Street, Stonewall Road and Horton Road.

This three-way intersection is at the city limits with Summit Township, and is a major access point to the City of Jackson. It will be redesigned into a T-intersection to allow for better traffic flow. The intersection will also receive new pavement, curbs, traffic signals and a pedestrian crossing to connect an existing trail to Ella Sharp Park. The overall goal of this project is to replace aging pavement and update intersections at a major gateway to the City.

Crews will begin setting up street closures and detour signs the week of Monday, June 3. During construction, Fourth Street will be closed to through traffic during construction but will remain open to local traffic so that residents and business patrons can access driveways within the work zone. The access point to the Middle School at Parkside parking lot will be the driveway from West Avenue.

The Engineering Division is sending out construction updates to residents and businesses throughout the project. Residents are advised to follow detours and prepare for street closures when driving through this part of the City.
