BROOKLYN, Mich. (May 19, 2015) — Michigan International Speedway is proud to partner with FireKeepers Casino—another Michigan-based company— to bring fans the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Pole Day on Friday, June 12 and Friday, Aug. 14.

Through state and local revenue sharing agreements, FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan, has contributed more than $100 million to the state of Michigan and to a local Revenue Sharing Board since the casino opened in August of 2009. The partnership with Michigan International Speedway allows FireKeepers to continue its involvement in the community and racing, giving the opportunity to entertain its customers at NASCAR’s fastest track.

NASCAR’s qualifying format has added excitement to the weekend as drivers and teams compete against each other and the clock to post the fastest time. Teams use varying strategies in search for that magic time. The format is concise, competitive and compelling as drivers battle to advance to the next round.

Jeff Gordon set a track qualifying record of 206.558 mph for the 2014 Pure Michigan 400, the seventh-fastest pole winning speed in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history. It was also the fastest in NASCAR history on a non-restrictor plate track.

Fans at MIS will experience three rounds of qualifying on Friday as part of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Pole Day. In the first session, all the drivers will be on the track in a 15-minute segment to earn the right to advance. The top 24 times advance to a 10-minute segment. Finally, in the final five-minute session the drivers with the top 12 times from the second segment will battle to start on the pole.

“Qualifying has been exciting since the format launch in 2014 and I cannot wait to see the drivers compete on FireKeepers Casino Hotel Pole Day at MIS,” track President Roger Curtis said. “It is exciting to partner with another great Michigan company who shares our motto of giving back to their customers. We are looking forward to fans enjoying the new qualifying format.”

“The Pole Day is the day to stand out, be noticed and set yourself up to be in the best position to become a winner,” FireKeepers Casino Hotel CEO R. Bruce McKee said. “That’s what FireKeepers Casino Hotel does to separate itself from all other casinos in the region. FireKeepers stands out, gets noticed and sets itself up to be the best. Pole Day gives top teams and superb equipment the chance to stake an early claim for greatness at the Quicken Loans 400.
