(5-24-25, 8:00AM): Northwest High School senior Ava Golightly continues to make history on the softball diamond.
In a recent matchup against Coldwater, Golightly swiped her 200th career stolen base — a moment that completed a rare and remarkable trifecta: 200 stolen bases, 200 runs scored, and 200 singles. It’s a personal goal she set early in her high school career, and now, with the milestone met, she stands among the elite in Michigan high school softball.
“Ava has been a tremendous example of what it means to be a quality teammate not just an athlete. She is always positive, encouraging the success of everyone” said Head Coach Dan Good.
A four-year varsity starter, Golightly has been an engine of the Mountie offense since her freshman season. Her consistency at the plate, and leadership on and off the field have made her a foundational piece of the program.
“You will never see her sitting away from her team but up on the fence engaged in the action celebrating the successes and giving a word of encouragement for those that may be struggling” said Coach Good.
With a current record of 17-8, the Mounties are gearing up for the MHSAA postseason, which begins May 30th. Golightly, who is committed to play D1 college softball at the University of Toledo, is hoping to help lead Northwest on a deep playoff run before closing out her high school career.
No matter what happens in the postseason, Golightly’s legacy is firmly cemented.
“As an athlete she is a tireless worker, putting in hour after hour of work to perfect her craft. She is highly competitive and will push herself to be as successful as she possibly can. Her success comes from her preparation and the trust that she has in that preparation.”
