Gregory Learns to Love Hockey at LCCHS

(February 15, 2025 8:00 AM ET) Lumen Christi Catholic High School hockey player Brodie Gregory said he fell out of love with hockey in junior high.

With the help of his brother and coach, the senior is again enjoying time on the ice.

Members of the Lumen Christi team and fans are happy for the turnaround. Gregory is leading the area in hockey scoring – as of Thursday – with 20 goals and 24 assists.

Michigan Center hockey player Brennan Forward is having a solid season with Jackson United with 35 points, Isaiah Dinverno has 33 points for the Titans, and teammate Luke Dumont has scored 30 points for Lumen Christi.

Gregory started playing hockey at an early age but was not enjoying it as a seventh grader. It was not until he started watching his brother, Cade, a captain, and key player on the LCCHS varsity hockey team.

“I decided at that point this is also something I wanted to do,” Gregory said. He also credits LCCHS Coach Dan Brady for instilling a number of life lessons into the sport.

“Coach Brady has helped me to love the sport more,” Gregory said. “He is always telling us to be good people and help the younger players.”

But Gregory does not plan to play hockey in college as his sport of passion is baseball.

He scored the winning run in a wild semifinal win at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state semifinal against Charlevoix at Michigan State University. The Titans scored three times in the final inning to pull out a win against the stunned players from up north.

“We just found a way to win,” Gregory said of the victory. “I had two strikes on me but still was able to get on base.

“Our goal is to get back to the state championship game.”
