(June 22, 2021 4:38 PM)  The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Charity Basketball Tournament is returning to Jackson after a year off due to COVID-19. The tournament will be starting a day earlier this year with gameplay beginning the evening of Friday, July 23;  events and competition run through July 25. Tipping off on Friday night will allow for a balanced, distributed registration process, spread out gameplay, and establish an exciting evening atmosphere in Downtown Jackson alongside the monthly Cruise-In and Concert hosted by the Jackson Downtown Development Authority. The Heroes Tournament presented by County National Bank will welcome law enforcement officers, emergency responders, healthcare warriors, and other local heroes to the blacktop the evening of Saturday, July 24 following the dunk contest (approximately 4:00 PM).

The tournament is presented by Art Moehn Chevrolet and County National Bank, along with the support of the City of Jackson, Experience Jackson, Summit Orthodontics, Doll n’ Burgers, and other community partners. Chris Kudner,  General Manager of Art Moehn Chevrolet Honda, said, “We love getting involved in events like this. The greater Jackson area is where our customers and employees live, work, and shop, so it’s important to us to give back to this community in any way we can.”

In addition to the basketball games, there will be special events throughout the weekend, including The TRUE Community Credit Union City Slam Dunk Contest (with a grand prize of $1,000), the Grand River Brewery Lightning Competition, Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists Free Throw Competitions, and other special events.

Scott McNeal, aka Gus Macker himself, will be in town to call play-by-play on the Summit Orthodontics Dream Court.   The Original Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was started in 1974 by McNeal on his parent’s driveway basketball court in Lowell, Michigan. The Gus Macker name was derived from his nickname, Mac.

To register your team go to https://www.macker.com/local/jackson-mi by Monday, July 5th. The team entry fee is $160. With the limited number of teams allowed to participate this season at 250 teams, the organizers expect spots to go fast.   After a year hiatus due to the pandemic, and the fact that Jackson is one of only 6 Michigan destinations for Gus Macker in 2021, teams are signing up from throughout the state.
