(October 26, 2024 8:00 AM ET) Hanover-Horton High School football player Bryant Hamisfar admitted that he cried after the win over Columbia Central last week.

But according to the HHHS senior, it was “good cry.”

Years of frustration poured out of the Comets’ center as Hanover-Horton won the Cascades Conference West Division.

It is the first conference title of any kind for Hanover-Horton.

“We needed this more than we could ever know,” Hamisfar said of winning the division. “It has given us so much joy.”

But the Comets have succeeded in Cascades Football – 8-0 and headed to the Cascades Conference title game at home Saturday at noon – using a sound ground game. Hanover-Horton has run for more than 400 yards a couple of times this season.

Hamisfar is the main man on the line calling out line fronts and spotting blitzes. It is a position he has called home since elementary school.

“I have been Luke Soper’s center since third grade,” Hamisfar said. “He has always been my guy … you gain so much trust in one another.

“Luke is like a brother to me.”

Hamisfar has improved on the football field as a third-year varsity player and in the classroom. He struggled in reading in elementary school but was helped to turn that around by his aunt. He is proud to note he has a 3.1 GPA.

Being the short, round kid around school he considered transferring from Hanover-Horton a couple of years ago due to bullying. But Hamisfar hung with the Comets helping to lead to success on and off the football field.

“I am so glad I stayed … I have gained so many friendships along the way,” Hamisfar said. “I have seen the changes (in attitudes toward him).”

That was apparent a couple of weeks ago when Hamisfar and Alexyn DuBois were named as homecoming king and queen.

He also leads the Comets in prayer and is one of the most popular high school athletes when students go over to the elementary school on Fridays.

“I can do a lot of things through my faith … it brings peace and joy for me,” Hamisfar said. “It is a power and strength (telling me) I can do it.”

He plans to study law enforcement or join the military in the future.

But having an undefeated season is something Hamisfar will always remember about his high school years at Hanover-Horton.

“Winning a Cascades Conference title on Saturday would fill my heart,” Hamisfar said. “This season has taught us that anything is possible if you work together.”

And just believe.
