A day after giving up nine under par rounds, the nearly 6,900-yard Calderone Golf Club bit back.
But Riley Hestwood was not about to let his hard work on the golf course go to waste.
Hestwood shot an even-par 72 to win the Jackson Masters Golf Tournament with a two-round total of 139 – 5 under par.
It is his second major win with his first coming four years ago at the Spring Thaw.
Mike Brockie shot the best round of the day Sunday with a 2-under-par 70 finishing second with a two-day total of 140.
Bret Valkuchak was third (141), Brian Coon was fourth (142), Greg Zeller placed fifth at even-par 144, and Scott Denig was sixth scoring 145.
Hestwood said a bit more wind and tougher pins make for a tougher course on Sunday.
He had a three shot lead heading into 17, but a double bogey on the par 3 brought the field back to hm.
“I was chipping downhill on 17 and hit it past the cup,” Hestwood said. “It was a tough pin position.”
Hestwood scored a solid par on 18 to close out the tournament.
He earned a $500 gift certificate for his victory.
Hestwood said he has worked hard at the golf range thanks to a benefit offered by his employer Richmond Brothers at the Country Club of Jackson.
“It feels good to win since I have been putting in a lot of work,” Hestwood said.
Jason Norris and Sean Vann were the other two golfers under par Sunday with rounds of 71.
