(10-19-2025, 5:40PM): With one week remaining in the high school football regular season, the playoff picture is starting to come together. A few local teams still need to win next Friday to secure a playoff spot, while some teams are already looking ahead to their playoff opponents. Here are the local area teams in the playoffs and the teams who need to get a week 9 victory:
Division 3:
Northwest: 36.125 playoff points. The Mounties have a tall task this week as they host Battle Creek Harper Creek (7-1), but another win is needed for them to have a chance to sneak into one of the final D3 playoff spots. Northwest currently sits as the 38th team (top 32 clinch playoffs).
Division 5:
Michigan Center: 43.875 playoff points. The Cardinals are 8-0 and look to defeat Hanover Horton at home this Saturday to win the Cascades Conference championship. MC is currently 15th in Division 5, they could potentially finish 9-0 and still travel in the opening round of the playoffs.
Division 6:
Lumen Christi: 55.958 playoff points. After starting 1-2, the Titans have won 4 of their last 5 games including a huge win on Saturday at TC St. Francis to improve to 5-3. LC is currently 2nd in the state in D6 and will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Napoleon: 34.875 playoff points. The Pirates currently sit at 5-3 and faces rival Columbia Central next Friday in the conference crossover. Napoleon secures a playoff spot with a win, a loss would put NHS in a close call but can still likely clinch the postseason dependent on results of other schools and their Week 9 matchups.
Columbia Central: 29.500 playoff points. After starting 1-3, the Golden Eagles have been hot as they have now won 4 in a row and sit at 5-3 overall. If CC can defeat rival Napoleon in the Week 9 crossover, that would secure a playoff spot for a program who hasn’t made the playoffs since 2018.
Division 7:
Hanover Horton: 37.500 playoff points, #10 in D7. The Comets face a rematch with 8-0 Michigan Center in the Cascades Conference championship next Saturday, but have already put themselves in a position for a postseason run, and will likely host a 1st round home game. Both of HH’s losses have come from two D5 opponents, 8-0 Monroe Jefferson and 8-0 Michigan Center.
Jonesville: 26.750 playoff points. Jonesville currently sits at #27 out of 32 playoff teams at 5-3 overall. The Comets need a victory at Manchester in the crossover next Friday to secure a playoff spot, they will be on the road for the opening round if they can clinch.
Leslie: 26.750 playoff points. After starting 4-0, LHS has now fallen to 4-4 and 4th place in the Cascades-East division. The Blackhawks sit one spot right underneath Jonesville in the D7 playoff standings, meaning Leslie also needs a Week 9 win (vs Vandercook Lake) to clinch a playoff spot.
Stockbridge: 23.250 playoff points. Sitting at 4-4 heading into Week 9, the Panthers have also put themselves in a win-and-in position next Friday. Stockbridge hosts D8 White Pigeon in the Big 8/Southwest 10 crossover.
Division 8:
Springport: 36.250 playoff points. The Spartans scored two 4th quarter touchdowns on Friday to rally and win the Big 8 Conference, defeating Union City to stay undefeated. Springport has already gotten themselves into the postseason with enough points, and will likely host a 1st round matchup.
Manchester: 28.250 playoff points. Coach Josh Lindeman and the Dutch have turned their season around, after starting 2-3 they have won 3 in a row. A win vs Jonesville in the crossover would put Manchester in the playoffs for the 4th straight season and will travel to their first round opponent.
