I-94 Design-Build Project Update for Dec. 27, 2021

(December 27, 2021 3:15 PM)  The Michigan Department of Transportation has released this I-94 project update:

The contractor is putting the finishing touches on the 2021 work season before shutting down for the winter. Although we do expect some contractor activity will resume in mid- to late January, this work is not anticipated to impact traffic. The contractor has continued to make good progress toward building the new bridge that will carry eastbound I-94 over US-127/M-50 (West Avenue). Work also continues to progress at the new I-94/Elm Road interchange where the new Elm Road bridge is being built, as well as associated earthwork for the new interchange. The Lansing Avenue over I-94 has been reopened to vehicular traffic although it will remain closed for pedestrians. I-94 traffic will be maintained in its current configuration through the winter months.

The following are ramp and local road impacts that remain active:

• The northbound US-127/West Avenue ramp to westbound I-94 is closed with traffic detoured via the Springport Road interchange. This ramp will remain closed throughout the winter months.
• The northbound and southbound US-127/M-50 (West Avenue) ramp to eastbound I-94 is maintained via a temporary ramp using a temporary traffic signal. This temporary ramp configuration will remain in place throughout the winter.
• The Elm Road entrance ramp to eastbound I-94 is maintained via a temporary ramp from Blake Road. This configuration will remain in place through the winter.
• The westbound I-94 exit ramp to Elm Road is maintained via a temporary ramp to Seymour Road. This configuration will remain in place through the winter.
• One lane of northbound US-127/West Avenue remains closed from Sparks Street to Springport Road. Unfortunately, winter weather prevented the reopening of a second northbound lane. This configuration will remain in place through the winter.
