(July 19, 2022 3:26 PM)  The Michigan Department of Transportation today released the following I-94 Project Update:

The contractor continues to make progress along eastbound I-94 as well as the interchanges at US-127/West Avenue and Elm Road. Grading and concrete paving are progressing along eastbound I-94 between Airport Road and M-106 (Cooper Street). In early August, eastbound I-94 traffic will be shifted onto the new eastbound roadbed and work will resume in the median of I-94.

All US-127/M-50/West Avenue traffic has been shifted to the newly built western half of the new diverging diamond interchange, and the contractor is beginning work on the eastern half.

The bridges carrying Lansing Avenue over I-94, Elm Road over I-94, and eastbound I-94 over US-127/West Avenue are essentially complete with pedestrian fencing and aesthetic touches remaining.

The contractor also continues to work on the realigned Elm Road interchange with concrete paving of the new Elm Road roundabouts north and south of I-94 nearing completion. In mid- to late August, we are anticipating that Seymour Road will be closed between the temporary exit ramp from westbound I-94 and Elm Road while the contractor completes grading of the realigned Elm Road.

I-94 traffic will be kept in its current configuration for the next two to three weeks with all lanes of traffic shifted to the westbound roadway. Additional local ramp and lane closures are expected.

Ramp and local road impacts that are still active:

  • The northbound US-127/West Avenue ramp to westbound I-94 is closed with traffic detoured to Springport Road.
  • The southbound US-127/West Avenue ramp to eastbound I-94 is maintained via a temporary ramp using a temporary traffic signal.
  • One lane of northbound US-127/West Avenue is closed from Sparks Street to Springport Road.
  • The eastbound exit ramp to Cooper Street is closed with traffic detoured to the Elm Road interchange
  • The Elm Road entrance ramp to eastbound I-94 is maintained via a temporary ramp from Blake Road.
  • The westbound I-94 exit ramp to Elm Road is maintained via a temporary signalized connection to Seymour Road. A temporary traffic signal is also in place at the intersection of Elm Road and Seymour Road.
