(February 19, 2026 10:18 AM ET) The Jackson College Board of Trustees appointed a new member and elected a new chairwoman, vice-chairman at its regular meeting this past Monday.
Donna Lake will now serve as chairwoman. Lake is a retired Jackson Public Schools elementary teacher and a Jackson College alumna. “This past Monday, I was honored to be selected as chair of the Jackson College Board of Trustees. After nearly 13 years of serving on the board, stepping into this leadership role is both humbling and deeply rewarding.
“Jackson College has an exceptional and dedicated Board, and I look forward to working closely with my fellow trustees as we continue to move the College forward,” Lake said. “I am also excited to support the outstanding leadership of our President, Dr. Daniel Phelan, as we continue strengthening opportunities for our students and our community. As Jackson College celebrates its 98th year, I am proud to be part of this remarkable institution and look forward to all that the next century will bring to our future students and our community.”
Lake takes the leadership of the board following the resignation of Trustee and prior Chairwoman Sheila Patterson, who stepped down for personal reasons in late January. “After nearly 20 years of dedicated service on the Jackson College Board of Trustees, the time has come for me to step away a few months earlier than planned to embrace some much-needed personal time,” Patterson said.
“As I transition into this next chapter, my heart remains firmly connected to Jackson College and the mission that has guided us. I leave with immense appreciation for my fellow trustees – past and present — whose collaboration and passion have inspired me year after year,” she said.
To complete Patterson’s remaining term, the Board of Trustees appointed George Page, of Page Engineering, who has also served on the Jackson College Foundation Board of Directors. If he chooses, Page may run for election to another term later this year.
Trustee Matthew Heins, who has served the College since 2008, was elected vice chairman. He spent many years with the Jackson Police Department, including serving as Director of Police and Fire Services until his retirement. He later worked in security and is now working in insurance/risk management. He is also a Jackson College alumnus.
Rounding out the College’s Board of Trustees are Philip Hoffman, Danielle Mackey, Christopher Simpson and Teshna Thomas.
