Jackson College celebrated its new partnership with Wayne State University with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in James McDivitt Hall on Central Campus.
Wayne State University now offers undergraduate classes from the Mike Ilitch School of Business on the Jackson Central Campus. Students may complete most of the courses needed for a bachelor’s degree in business right on Central Campus.
“We’re excited to host Wayne State University in this University Center on our campus,” said Jackson College President Daniel J. Phelan. “I spent a lot of time visiting all the public universities in this state. I was on a mission to find the right university, one that shared our views, our beliefs and our values.
“We are very delighted to have you all here with us today, with this fulfillment of a dream, the fulfillment of a vision by our Board of Trustees.”
“We are both so committed to student success,” said Keith Whitfield, provost, Wayne State University. He cited recent strides made by WSU in doubling its graduating rate and receiving the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) 2018 Project Degree Completion Award. “When we found out more and more that Jackson College stands for the same things, that’s what makes a partnership. In today’s world, student success is critically important for our institutions to be focused upon.”
The Wayne State University office is open in McDivitt Hall. Faculty member Prity Patel will be meeting with students in Jackson Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with additional hours by appointment.
