(July 5, 2023 4:47 PM) Local residents with industry-recognized credentials and certifications may now be eligible for course credit at Jackson College.

“Jackson College is proud to be a higher education partner in the Jackson and South Central Michigan area,”  said Daniel J. Phelan, president & CEO of Jackson College. “Giving students the ability to get credit for their work done outside of school hours is just another way we can support and acknowledge the work done by their students.”

Students can earn course credit that would count toward hundreds of certificate and degree programs in Michigan. Course credit may be awarded for specific licensures, certifications, apprenticeships, training academies and other industry-recognized credentials. Industry areas where credits are available include healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, culinary arts, digital media, skilled trades, business and more.

“Skills gained by obtaining an industry-recognized credential are directly connected to knowledge learned on our campuses,” said Brandy Johnson, MCCA president. “This new partnership recognizes the hard work being done outside the classroom by awarding course credit for more than 500 industry-recognized credentials.”

Funding to connect the more than 500 industry credential areas is provided by the Ascendium Education Group as part of efforts by Michigan community colleges to strengthen career pathways in the state. A searchable database of credentials that course credit can be offered for is available through the Michigan Transfer Network at https://www.mitransfer.org/Earn-Credits-for-Industry-Credentials.
