(December 9, 2020 3:51 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County. As of 2:30 PM today, there are 6,143 positive cases (cumulative), and 108 deaths (cumulative)*.
There are 165 new cases since yesterday’s report.
Cumulative recovered, as of December 8, 2020: 2,566**
*Today’s data includes 20 additional deaths since yesterday’s report. According to the Jackson County Health Department, these additional deaths occurred during the month of November. The surge in cases and information pouring into the statewide COVID-19 database resulted in changes in how the JCHD ran their data reports. As a result, the county website data did not adequately capture the number of COVID deaths in Jackson County during the month of November. The data now reflects the additional deaths (20) that occurred in the month of November.
Matthew Budd, Director of Personal and Preventative Health Services for JCHD told JTV News that the additional deaths did not occur from one singular outbreak and that the circumstances surrounding each death are unique. “Our team continued to respond to COVID-19 requests from individuals and congregate care settings and continued to get updates from medical examiners and the state when deaths did occur in the county; it is only on the data reporting side of our COVID-19 strategy that we missed updating this information,” said Budd.
Budd adds, “the department strives to be transparent in our efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 in the community and will continue to provide information and resources in a transparent and expedient manner.”
The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday. Recovered numbers are being posted as received.
