(June 4, 2021 11:41 AM)  The Jackson County Health Department has released its weekly report and is published here:

As a result of the MIOSHA Return to Work Guidelines, many changes occurred this week – more people returned to the offices, masks disappeared when outside, and pandemic pups were wondering where their playtime pals had gone.

While outside, some people may still choose to wear their mask and others are happily showing their faces.  When going indoors, the mask or face covering will have to stay on for unvaccinated people.  Mask wearing is still required for everyone in places like healthcare settings and public transportation, where people may be in close contact with one another.

We already know that the Pfizer COVID vaccine is available for individuals aged 12 and over.  Moderna and Johnson and Johnson are in final testing phases to ensure their vaccines will soon be available for the 12 year and up age group as well as looking at even younger children.  As more people become fully vaccinated (2 shots for Moderna or Pfizer and 1 shot for Johnson and Johnson) the virus will lose the ability to infect through a process known as herd immunity.  The goal of 70% vaccination rate is both a Michigan goal (currently at 59.1%) and a national goal (62.9% with at least one shot).  Efforts at all levels are being taken to increase the number of vaccines provided through walk-in vaccine clinics, popup and community based clinics in locations to fit the needs of the county residents.

Vaccine Opportunities

The Jackson County Health Department will be at the ARE, Inc. Drop-In Center 330 W. Franklin Jackson on Wednesday, Wednesday, June 9, from 10 am – 2 pm for a Drop-in Vaccine Clinic. The Jackson County Health Department will be onsite for both doses scheduled appropriately.

In order to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, residents are encouraged to continue preventative measures as recommended by the CDC, which includes frequently washing your hands, wearing a mask if not fully vaccinated and maintaining social distance when around others. The COVID vaccine is a tool that will enable people to be free to do more things without masking and social distancing.

Data

Jackson County Health Department reports the following data as of June 2, 2021. This information is also available on the Michigan Vaccine Dashboard which is updated daily (M-F) by 3:00 p.m. Data now reflects the addition of the 12-15 year olds.

COVID case numbers in Jackson County compared to the State of Michigan:

**Recovered = alive 30 days after onset date (if onset date is missing, then referral date). This calculation is using the Patient Status variable to distinguish alive vs deceased.

The COVID-19 variants continue to circulate in our community. There is evidence that the B.1.1.7 is still the most prevalent COVID-19 strain spreading in Michigan.
