Baseball

Northwest 8, Columbia Central 4: The Mounties scored all eight runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning in the win. JR Morrow recorded two hits and Will Herman struck out six batters for Northwest. Ryan Ladd and Luke McDorman had two hits apiece for Columbia Central (2-4). 

Columbia Central 5, Northwest 4: Ethan Stewart was the star for Columbia Central in the win. He knocked in two runs, pitched three innings, and struck out four batters in the win. Both teams scored three runs apiece in a wild seventh inning. The Mounties (5-2) were led by Donnie Tenney with four hits in the contest. 

Hanover-Horton Tournament: Bronson High School defeated Hanover-Horton 7-2 in the opening game of the tournament. Hunter Fox had a pair of hits and struck out eight batters on the mound for the Comets. Hanover-Horton lost 9-7 to Charlotte in the consolation final. 

Union City Tournament: Michigan Center High School defeated Sand Creek in the opening game 8-5. Brock Cyrocki, Brendan O’Dowd, and Daylen Hinkle had three hits apiece in the win. The Cardinals faced Constantine in the finals. The Falcons defeated Michigan Center 5-0 in the finals. The Cardinals were limited to four hits in the contest. 

Softball

Hanover-Horton Tournament: The Comets defeated Sand Creek 7-6 in the opening round of their own tournament. Lilly Wooster knocked in three runs for the Comets. Hanover-Horton lost 12-10 to New Lothrop in the tournament. Dani Riggs had three hits and Katie Stroede and Alexis Flint recorded a pair of hits each in the game. The Comets lost to Morenci 4-1 in eight innings. Flint struck out 12 batters for HHHS in the loss. 

Three Rivers Tournament: Northwest High School won two-of-three games at Three Rivers on Saturday. The Mounties lost 7-1 to Escanaba but defeated Three Rivers 9-2 and St. Joseph 17-2. Nevaeh Ingram, Madison Neitzke, and Campbell Kloack had three hits against St. Joseph. Cora Pilaczynski recorded four hits in the win over Three Rivers. Ingram and Pilaczynski earned the pitching wins for the Mounties (5-1). 

 

Girls’ Soccer 

Jackson Christian Cup: The Royals battled back from a 3-1 deficit in game one to defeat Battle Creek Calhoun Christian 5-4. Jackson Christian lost to Kalamazoo Heritage Christian 3-2 in the three-team tournament. 

Jackson at Marshall Tournament: The Vikings lost a pair of games at the Marshall Sports Festival. Jackson lost to Grosse Ile to start the day and fell 5-3 to Leslie in the consolation final. 

From late Friday track and field

Lakeview Invitational: Northwest High School finished fifth in the boys’ event and sixth at the girls’ meet at Battle Creek Lakeview. Destiny Berry won the discus (84-8.5) and Aspen Tapley finished third in the pole vault (7-4). Dylan Gloar was second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.84) for the Mounties in the boys’ meet.

Bob Meckey Memorial at Britton-Deerfield: Sand Creek High School won both meets, according to tournament organizers. Hanover-Horton dominated the distance and middle-distance races in the boys’ event. Dean Reynolds won the 800-meter run (2:04) and the 1,600-meter run (4:39); Rogan Melling took first in the 3,200-meter run (10:27); and the Comets won the 3,200-meter relay (9:18) with a team of Melling, Reynolds, Evan Shepherd, and Logan Shepherd. Sophia Reynolds won the 3,200-meter run (13:36); Kathryn Childs won the 100-meter high hurdles (17.52); and the 400-meter relay team of Childs, Clara Rector, Alayna Shackelford, and Tracy Ackley won that event (55.44). 

PGA Tour

Brian Stuard shot another 3-under-par 68 at the RBC Heritage Classic Tournament on the PGA Tour on Saturday. He is currently 21st at 7-under par heading into play on Sunday. Stuard moved up 10 spots on Saturday.
